Hiroka Kuwabara, Colorful (2010)
I don't know what my favourite era of anime is. Probably either 1985-1995, though at times I think I might prefer 1995-2005. I consciously avoid most post-2010 anime save for standouts and movie releases. I still think "japanimation" is the superior term. I like the fun, action-packed anime set in highschools too, but I wish the sliver of the industry's creatives who want to make more than that got more chances to make stuff like
Angel's Egg or
Jin-Roh or
A Tree Of Palme. I've been watching anime since 1995 (
Sailor Moon), but was too young to really understand what anime was until years later. Eventually started seeking out anime deliberately in 2010.
I don't think I've ever read a useful user review on this site, no offense. I'm generally pretty skeptical of the way western anime fans consume anime too: stuff like
"you should watch the entire show to rate it/have an opinion on it, even if you don't like it;" or the gamifying mentality that drives some to watch anime at 1.25x speed to cram as much watch time onto their lists; and a bunch of other weird behaviours that betray almost a hatred of artistic qualities sometimes.
I use the "dropped" category more as a way to mark and remember which shows I can't or won't watch, particularly DVD/Blu-ray-exclusive specials and shorts in series that I don't care about (ugh, picture dramas, how I loathe you). As of Dec 2021, I stopped rating entries with a total duration shorter than 10 minutes; unless they're related to a proper anime series that I've seen like Pokemon, Inuyasha, or whatever.
