Just an avid anime viewer. I always judge animes as standalone series - I try not to get biased by other similar series that may be superior. I treat each anime I watch like it's the very first time I've ever seen an anime, and value execution over originality. I mean let's be honest - at this point, just about everything that can be done in anime has already been done in some way, shape, or form. I'll never drop an anime that I've started watching.
I don't typically score shows low, because I can generally derive enjoyment from just about anything I watch. For me to score anything 5 or below, an anime would seriously have to fuck up on every single level. If there is any show out there that deserves a 1, it would be the live action movie for Avatar: The Last Airbender (which isn't even an anime). That movie will change your whole perspective regarding the meaning of bad. No anime I've seen comes even close to that turd in terms of mediocrity, so I'm not likely to give scores that low for an anime.
