Underappreciated is probably the wrong word but yeah, it is quite unpopular. And even on the appreciation part, it is only recently that it has gotten such a high rating on MAL. I remember around early 2020 when I first watched monster it was barely in the top 50s, when it should be in the top 10s.

And ironically, I would say Steins;Gate is surprisingly unpopular despite the number of voters because nobody really talks about it in the anime forums these days. They all talk about FMAB, HxH, Attack on Titan etc.
