Hello, I'm a 22 year old piano deliverer from Manchester. Been watching anime basically all my life! Looking for like minded people to talk to. Soooooo... message me for a chat or something c:
I feel your pain on Death Note. It gets pretty dull after that one incident and then doesn't really get any better until the last episode, everything in between (although good at some moments) is all together unmemorable.
Gurren Laggan got pretty terrible too, for me at least, but it seems that everyone on MAL would disagree with me on that, rage at me even. I am currently finishing up Gintama enchousen because my heart was unable to take the reruns they were doing. I had to wait till it all ended and I could figure out what was rerun and which episodes were actually new (and the season just ended).
You interested in any anime movies? We could watch one or two and then discuss them afterwords. I can send you a list of some I've downloaded and/or interested in if you are willing.
You have such a wonderful mother! Don't buy manga! you'll go broke in a few months XD; Not being in japan, manga is way too overpriced, especially the ones that interest us the most, which are more mainstream and therefore sometimes cost even more! There are quite a few manga sites, just find the one that suits your needs.
Try to look over a few on my list that interest you and I could tell you about them. I don't want to jump and start recommending you left and right here. If you are into more of the action oriented: you can try One piece (i know its long but it starts to get quite good shounen and it will keep you busy for a long time), kenshin ova http://myanimelist.net/anime/44/Rurouni_Kenshin:_Tsuiokuhen (trust me, its pretty damn good and its short too!) or if you are looking for anime that would surprise you, you can try Madoka http://myanimelist.net/anime/9756/Mahou_Shoujo_Madoka%E2%98%85Magica (you have to get through the first 3 episodes but its really great, i think it will fulfill your story , action and dark theme needs like elfen lied did)
XD yeah i remember the anime depression after i finished Elfen Lied, it lasted for a while too. I was all raging there wasn't a new season and what really happened and everything.
My goodness! Cosplay! you must send me pictures when you finish, i'd love to see it. Don't worry, I won't criticize it TOO much. (I spelled criticize wrong just now and i got "Christianize" as auto correct, how funny is that).
Death note, i remember the second half of it was not as good as the first for me, especially the ending for me was KIND of a let down, but ofc overall a very enjoyable anime. Let me know your thoughts once you finish it up!
For recommendations, my list only consists of things that I enjoyed or I think is worth watching. I excluded everything else (though i've watched a ton of anime, if you want to ask about my opinion on a particular one that is not on my list). Tell me what genre you are looking for or what kind of characters you want and it would be a lot easier. You can simply also state things you hate about the anime you've watched and I could try and recommend you things that are different or opposite of that.

do you usually just stick to dubs?
more like South Park crossed with Samurai Champloo in a futuristic setting and a completely dysfunctional cast :)
Really? :O awesome! it starts off slow but if you like sitcoms, youll love this ;)
Id have to say Gintama, if you havent checked it out, its worth it!
