For movies, Blade Runner is a good start, another work that might not have the same impact today as it did back then, but I find it pretty solid, and the sequel they made in recent years, Blade Runner 2049, is surprisingly great (a rare thing for a late sequel), and every entry they added to the universe is canon, from the shorts that came with Blade Runner 2049 Blu-Ray (two live-action, and one anime called Black Out 2022), the anime series Black Lotus, to the comic books 2019, 2029 and 2039 series (which I found great).

I think Blade Runner stands midway between sci-fi and action sci-fi. The neonoir makes it melancholic, but it's not as much of a slowburn as others. 2001: A Space Odyssey is one of the biggest classics there is, with very psychedelic development, but real slowburn stuff comes from Eastern European countries. Just yesterday I was talking about Solaris on another social media, the original 1972 Tarkovsky movie and the crime that was the 2002 Hollywood remake, but I haven't read the novel and the guy told me that it's more psychological - and the Tarkovsky movie was already very deep in the emotional aspects of what they were experiencing. Another Tarkovsky classic is Stalker (which inspired the game franchise of the same name) but that one is veeery slowburn, I think he went overboard on how long and slow the scenes are, haha. Some apocalyptic, and very depressing, Eastern European movies are Dead Man’s Letters and O-Bi, O-Ba: The End of Civilization. But one thing you must know is that the pace of those movies is very different from American stuff, comparing to anime, it would be closer to Serial Experiments Lain.

Now, if slowburn isn't your thing, then some fun action sci-fi movies I recommend are Total Recall (1990) and Twelve Monkeys, Predestination is also great... and then, of course, Terminator 1 & 2 (the rest of the franchise is a bit of a grey area) and the Mad Max franchise (1, 2 and Fury Road are my favorites, 3 and Furiosa I didn't care much), these are full-blown action. Terminator 2 and Mad Max Fury Road are probably the best action sci-fi movies ever made. Alien franchise also has some quite fun movies if you are into horror - and more in space horror there is Event Horizon and Pandorum.
The Matrix (the first movie, I'm not very fond of the sequels) and Inception are also some of the best action sci-fi movies... I'm going with pretty basic choices here because I don't know what stuff you've watched. I've met people on this platform who don't watch live-action or Western stuff at all... also, I don't know how old you are, so some of these movies could be very old for you.

They Live and Soylent Green are also classics, then there is a dystopian black humor movie that I find very underrated, called Brazil.
Then there are the Cronenberg movies, that are often grotesque and bizarre but do a great exploration of technology and reality, like Videodrome and eXistenZ.

Open Your Eyes (that got a Hollywood remake called Vanilla Sky) and Moon are some other drama/thrillers I recommend.
And for feel-good Arrival, Interstellar and The Martian.

On animation, there is a French one called Mars Express that is very in the style of Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell.

Hi dude, any medium or just anime/manga?
Ashamedly I didn't read that much stuff, mostly the basics and more in the dystopia genre. Most of the time, dystopias are about expecting the worst from people in power, but sometimes stuff is not so black and white, and that's why I find Brave New World fascinating. I like stuff that you have to reflect on - the how and why things turned out like that and what are the implications for the characters who grow up and live like that and form their personalities, thoughts, desires, and actions.
Neuromancer is the must-read for cyberpunk, but all the themes in it were recycled so much by movies and video games that I don't think it has the same impact today as it did back when it was released. I still quite like it though, as I do Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? - this one is not actually cyberpunk, it predates it, but it was a huge influence on the genre. It's the book that inspired Blade Runner but has way different and richer world-building.
I'm not much into space opera.

Now, about movies... I might overwhelm you, I will have to take my time to write hehe

Thanks, mate. Also great list. Sorry, I barely have time for anime and checking MAL these days.

It's trash man. The only exception is the music, which is indeed great.

Maybe it gets way better later or something, but the beginning is pretty inexcusably bad.
