I first got interested in anime because I remember really just liking the "style" that anime and manga have traditionally been drawn in. It struck me early on as more impressive than any other western cartoon or comic, what I can only now describe as a satisfying balance between a stylistic and realistic aesthetic that was just so pleasing to watch for me. Of course I was never really "into anime" until a short while ago almost halfway through high school when a close family member pushed me to watch shows like Naruto. However, the first anime I really cherished as a story would be Fate/Zero, shown to me by that same family member.
Everything about that show was incredible beyond words to me, I'd never seen anything like it. The characters were endearing and interesting with realistic-feeling interactions and dynamics that contributed to masterfully written growth and development throughout an exciting and intense death game/tournament plot. Ever since then I have only watched more anime and shared a roller coaster of up's and down's with the medium, industry, and fanbase as I continue to journey deeper into the abyss of self-depreciation and societal hopelessness, scraping by for whatever merit I can find until I stumble upon another masterpiece that reminds me why I fell in love with anime in the first place.
I may joke around about it a lot but as a general medium to express stories through and as something just to watch and enjoy, I really do genuinely love anime.
