Kira is allright, but watch them in this order: Kai, Rei, Kira, and then Kaku. Well... Kaku can be watched in any order, it's a stand alone movie arc.
If you like fan service you'll love the 1st episode of Kira ;3
they go so over board... it's frightening! D': OH! and the first episode of Rei is a wacky swimsuit episode lol!
But you wont get most of these 2 OVA seasons with out finshing Kai first kay?

It really is just so fantastic, really surprising to those who finish the first season and then expect more of the same- many questions answered with many twists thrown your way~
there is still some horror and gore, but not as much as S1, as the madness is no longer the central theme, but the escape from it.
Higurashi REI is also worth checking out after season 2, and the movie: KAKU
Higu KIRA can be skipped unless you're really attracted to the characters and like the fanservice elements... all though I did enjoy the magical girl spin off episode, I like Mahou Shoujo! :D
You'll have to give me some time to get to all this technical stuff someday, right now it's hurtin my brain! @_@
Kanon is every bit a good as Clannad for serial! :D
And Higurashi KAI... it just plain blows Higurashi season 1 OUT OF THE WATER! It's what made me fall in love with the Higu series, not season 1~
the atmosphere is completely different, while season 1 is cringe worthy horror, season 2 is more... well, it's a very uniquely told drama, I dont want to spoil anything for you but to me it's amazing!! (*0*)
