I would like you to check out this anime review I have made. Here's the link https://myanimelist.net/reviews.php?id=333079. I would like to know your opinion on the series and what you think of my review. I am open to criticism. If you like the review, clicking the "helpful button" would be nice to show your support. Thank you in advance for taking your time in my anime review.
I did the same thing you did with Jojo. I'm actually only on Stardust Crusaders, so I've got a way to go. I wanted to just keep going, but I'd rather pace myself so I have a better appreciation for the series when I'm done. Thanks for the insight on those manga though, I think I'll at least give Horimiya a try later on.
On Akira, the manga: So what I recommend to people is based on their tastes. If someone only loves SOL or romance, if I recommend them a huge tome like Akira, they might get into it, but also maybe not, as it might not be their style. It's got action, a crazy back story, kids with psychic powers, etc. If you already know what you're in for and you're still interest in reading it, then by all means, go ahead.
Here's why I love it.
I love to draw. I've begun to experiment with the pen and ink medium over the past year as well. What better place to draw inspiration than from your favorite mangaka? Otomo is an absolute legend in this regard. Take a look at the buildings this man draws, and you'll think you'd need to draw buildings for a decade straight to be able to replicate this detail. It's seriously on another level. When I read Akira, it takes me a while. I look at all the art, the backgrounds, everything. I don't just blast through. If you understand this and can relate, you will definitely enjoy your experience more.
I love cyberpunk. I love dystopian stories. I love adventure. This blends the aforementioned into a wild ride. The anime is basically volume 1 and volume 6. Everything in the middle is blasted right through. Some characters you see for mere seconds in the movie have a whole volume expanding upon them.
If you want to know more about the movie and feel called to dive in, do it. If you loved the movie and that world, there's a chance that yes, you will enjoy the manga more than the movie. I certainly did. But once you read the manga, you can rewatch the movie with a new appreciation because you know all the details. If you appreciate art or if you like to draw, do it. When I feel like drawing and need inspiration, I often will grab an Akira volume and shuffle around for something to get me excited.
I also feel very lucky to have the 35th anniversary edition box set of the manga, and it only adds to my appreciation of the series as a whole. As a collector, having something like this is just the cherry on top. I sold ALL of my manga years ago, only to begin rebuilding my collection with extreme selectivity. Now I only add classics or life-changing manga to my collection. This is one of them.
Understand that the series is huge. I threw a picture in for reference. But if you feel that knowing how it all unfolds will bring you happiness, then go for it. It's not some series with fundamental holes in its makeup. It's a classic. I think you either appreciate it, or you don't. If you get into it, please let me know!
I'm glad you understand with Nichijou. I really enjoy the idea behind Sakamoto's character and how he's this authority figure who falls victim to his natural cat-like instincts. Hilarious.
Ahh, Psycho Pass is definitely on my list. Seems like a good one if you're ready for a psychological ride. Hmm, if it was me I'd get on Jojo part 7 if you're that far in! I've got a ways to go until part 7, but I've been enjoying manga a bit more than usual this past month.
Carole & Tuesday. What is that, exactly? I thought it was a sort of online avatar for musicians who stream shows. Am I misunderstanding that? Ahh, I'm doing the same as you with regard to Madoka Magica. I've seen the same spread of reactions as well. I'm not ready for the series to start going downhill, because everything to this point has been absolutely stellar. Even though I low-key hated how the final movie ended... I still think it's brilliant.
How have you been liking Horimiya? I heard so many good things, but it seems to be quite a long ride.
How are you liking Nichijou so far? I'm in the middle of it myself. I've found some episodes to be utterly hilarious, but at the same time I've gone through a few episodes in a row that I didn't find quite as funny. I've never had a relationship with an anime like this one, that's for sure.
What series' are you looking forward to catching up on?

Grab #1 and see how you like it, it's definitely worth it!
