tbh the story in general is still dark and tragic only that it has a strong black humor, like, agni feeding his people through cannibalism or the part when agni faces doma again.. It is not a manga for just anyone...
The postmodern narrative that fujimoto uses in fire punch reminds me too much of Thomas pynchon in gravity'rainbow, u know, making fun of genre conventions (along with other stuff like parody, meta narrative, intertextuality), like, in gravity's rainbow there also those kind of scenes like a tentacle monster scene, a toilet scene straight out of chainsawman and the infamous banana scene..
I still think that throwing to shit the archetypal revenge-plot was the best option so that the work could really reach its true potential
FP aspired to an archetypalrevenge story until she appeared and turned into a satire of its genre...
she set the true tone of the manga, the first volume is just a bait.. Without her, the theme of the films would not have been raised and therefore the theme of identities would not have been raised, the theme of identities is what maintains narrative coherence throughout the course of the manga in its shitposting, this is not a manga that you read through story but for the thematic exploration
