I've been watching anime for quite a long time, but i just followed them on tv; i actively started looking for them on my own when i was 16-17.
I only watch Japanese dubbed shows. I hate English dubs, i just can't bear them and it's easier for me to read English instead of hearing it. Ironically, my native language dubs are quite enjoyable, but there are some serious issues concerning censorship and very poor dialogue adaptation; for these reasons i intentionally left out of my list any show i watched on tv, most notably Fist of the North Star and Dragon Ball, which would probably double my "time on anime" count. Too bad.
Yu Yu Hakusho and One Piece are listed since i really enjoyed watching them at the time and i didn't miss a single episode.
I skip almost any show longer than 26 episodes: i don't have time/patience anymore and i don't like shounen that much. It seems like any endless anime is a shounen. Ah, genres... I watch anything besides pure action shounen and yaoi-heavy anime.
I only watch finished airing shows and i almost never drop one, wether i like it or not. I also favor completed series over ongoing stories, i want an ending right off the bat. I usually follow a single anime at a time.
My watching pattern is somewhat messy: i can marathon and end up viewing anime all day for a week and then stop for a month. It depends on my mood and on finding something appealing enough.
I love
- Overwhelmingly cute characters, mecha musume and kemonomusume.
- Subtitles side notes, especially Japanese culture related ones.
- Tea, but i've yet to find tea-related anime. There are mahjongbu and tenmonbu, why not sadobu?
- Cats.
- Reviews.
I hate
- Streaming.
- 16:9/16:10 screens. No, not the movie format, just the screen format. I gladly accept top and bottom black bars.
- Shows that change genres halfway through and heavy drama mixed with comedy.
Fun facts
- I do not read manga. As you can see, my manga list got a lot of views. Too bad it's empty.
- I do not rate anime.
- I always wait for DVD/BD's, so i'm 6-12 months behind airing time.
HD shows i'm waiting for: see "Website"

i'll reply to the rest later yo :)
i also thought i'd let you know we FINALLY have a music anthology for this month posted on 20+, if you're still interested..i figured i'd inform you since you always participated before and we hadn't done it in a while...thanks and hope to see you there! :)
Hahah, yeah, 'chimese cartoons' was funny.
Speaking of dropping anime, I'm similar to you. Several times I started anime that I disliked a lot (usually some things - mostly characters- in them were very grating), but I wouldn't drop them. Thus watching those anime turned out to be a chore rather than entertainment. Nowadays, that doesn't happen often since I know my tastes better and can pretty much guess what I won't like even before watching it. Also, like you said, I'm more cautios with choosing titles and like to 'investigate' before deciding whether to watch something or not.
But, I still get tricked sometimes - the latest offenders being Guilty Crown and Mirai Nikki if I remember correctly.
I'm a bit curious, what shows made you feel like it 'killed your soul' (if it's not a secret)?
Yes, Ougon is a fighting (tag team) game. I have only tried it once on one of my friends' PC. It's an interesting game, but I wouldn't recommend it to people who haven't played the VNs. Not that they wouldn't be able to play it, it's just that most of the game's charm comes from one's familiarity with the characters. That way, their moves become much more meaningful and fun. Also, while it is not related to the main story, the game does contain some spoilers.
Ah, too bad Higurashi game doesn't work on Win7. Well, I guess I could use those workarounds. I'll bookmark that site in case that I decide to try the game out. Not right now (I rarely play games nowadays anyway), but maybe sometimes later.
Thanks for your concern. I too thought perhaps they might send me to a surgery, but the doc said it wasn't necessary.
In my defence, I was late for a bus so that's why I jumped over a fence xD I don't know about the doc, but I do worry my folks sometimes. My mum, in particular, STILL whenever I don't answer the phone thinks I may have had some accident (but i guess most mums do that).
Good Best of luck with your exams!
Figure collecting? Ofc I wouldn't laugh (I mean, come on, we all still watch those chimese cartoons). I know almost nothing about figure collecting (except what I accidentally saw on the net), but I kinda always thought it must be expensive. So, is it? What kind of figures do you collect. Figmas, PVCs, those Gundam ones, or something else?
Your friend seems like he very much understands the principle of equal exchange :D
Hahahah....that comment about the anime list...hilarious...well, thanks. I wish I could hold all the acolades for myself and say I made the list layout myself from the scratch, but that's not the case. Y'see, two weeks ago (or so) I was thinking about changing my anime list layout in a way that incorporates covers. I was going to start working on it, but first I decided to visit the custom list club on MAL for ideas. There I saw a pre-made css layout that fit my vision nicely. So being a lazyass (and since I'm not a css expert), I decided to use it for my list. I modified some stuff, changed icons, changed several parameters and that's it.
As for Amagami SS: I can't say I hated it but it really didn't interest me . It was one of those anime I picked up completely randomly and when I saw that it's not my cup of tea i decided to drop it. I don't remember why I even rated it, probably so I can know not to pick it up again.
No, the damage was not that big, but it was annoying. Finally, I'm fully back online, all the issues have been solve, hopefully for good.
Oh, yes, routine repairs or whatever they call it. That happens to me with my ISP from time to time too, but it usually doesn't last long.
I just checked it, that oray nah emoto thing is quite funny. It seems to use the same parody approach like meguca (which is already memetic). Thanks for sharing it. Speaking of Oreimo, I think I may pick up the main series again and finish it sometimes during summer. It's not long anyway, and I don't like to have anime in the dropped section.
I've never heard of Higurashi Daybreak before. But it's not surprising to see something like that made (Umineko has Ougon Musou Kyoku, after all). I've just seen some clips and it seems pretty interesting, wouldn't mind playing it.
My knee definitely suffered more damage than the thumb. Y'see, my knee problems are recurring, since I hurt the ligaments during a basketball match when I was in high school. Ever since then I have to be careful not to misstep or else I might hurt them again. Another similar injury several years ago when I was jumping over a fence certainly didn't help. I know, I know, I'm not the most careful person xD
Btw, how are you? I haven't seen you around in the club. I guess you're busy. Yeah, I accidentally (cross my heart :)) read Bill's comment below mine, so I'm guessing you're occupied with school or sth. Don't worry, I'm not prying into stuff or anything, just wanted to say 'ganbatte'!
did you get a chance to post btw? i don't remember tbh...i try to keep up but i have too many other things going on to have my finger on the button too much.
hahahhaa yeah it's at 4 months now with no anime, but tbh i don't really miss it too much. not that i don't enjoy it, but i've thrown myself into other things, but i'll get back to it i'm sure. i still have DVD box sets i haven't even gotten to yet.
nice to hear from you though, even if you're not in the club as much, as long as you stop by from time to time, your presence is missed ^^
take care man
Glavanya!! yeah i figured you had your uni stuff going on, is it your last year now? yeah we hope to have you for at least the anthology, today is the last day of voting after all, then ofc it's posting time. you always add a nice touch. :D
my anime watching has more than slowed down btw, it's been like a complete stop. nothing for like 3 months, but it's been rather busy for me as well, but luckily, productive. work is ok, hopefully i won't be there much longer and be moving on to bigger and better things soon, which is what i've been working on. thanks for asking! ^^
i will def stop by. i get so caught up with club stuff i forget about the profiles sometimes, but i just thought the other day "wtf, where's cat been all this time?!!"
anyways, glad you're well. talk to you later :D
Oh, one of Rika's line. I know exactly which line you're talking about. I'm not completely sure if that was added by the studio Deen or it appears in the novels, but I've heard that the line isn't canon (then it's probably added as fanservice). I still hold the opinion that they are related but not the same person. I'm not absolutely certain though so I won't go into elaborating my view because of possible spoilers and also because I don't want to force my opinions on others. Gah, it sure is confusing since there are plenty of theories floating around and thet trollish author rarely confirms anything, leaving fans to guess xD
Tnx a lot for Railgun and Index comparison, that was very thorough. I think I'll check Railgun, though not right away. Some action/comedy mix is a nice thing every once in a while.
Yeah, that's exactly right. being an anime watcher is suffering in more than one way.
hahah, 'ZA WARUDO' Madoka parodies! I honestly never thought about it, but now that you mention it, I think that would be pretty cool. NowI've gotta check to see if there are any out there.
I was just going to download Genshiken 2, but my Internet problems kicked in again. Oh, well, I guess I'll do it tonight then.
Yeah, it was a real scythe. I have a pretty big garden (which is also steep), so the use of landmower is out of a question. Thus, I use scythe to reap grass. It's pretty convenient and completely safe if you know what you're doing. But, I slipped and sprained my knee while carrying the scythe, that's how I managed to cut my finger, but it was not serious, not even a scar left.
Juuni Kokuki is a Bildungsroman set in a Neverending-Story-esque, Asian-inspired world. You follow multiple characters through a rich fantasy setting that involves action, political intrigue, magic, a little bit of romance ... It's just a lot more nuanced, complex, and interesting than your typical anime. Which isn't surprising, since it's based on a series of novellas. Watching the main character (and the side characters) develop throughout the series is very satisfying. Especially the arc of the main character is interesting: you see her gradually change from a mousey, scared girl into a confident, wise woman. It's certainly something I'm going to watch with my niece when she's old enough. :)
I realise now I didn't answer your question: I don't know why I thought you were Italian. o.O Maybe I read it somewhere? What part of Italy are you in, if I may ask? I'm also kind of paranoid about the 'net. I never upload photos, and I only give out a scant few details.
MAL still doesn't know our compatibility, even though we share 40+ anime. XD I see you haven't watched Green Green yet, either. I watched a few scenes from one of the episodes. It seems like it might be a funny etchi. I'll let you know whether it's a good watch when I'm done with it. Kamisama no Memochou sounds interesting.
You shouldn't really be tinking of Umineko as a sequel to Higurashi. Spiritual successor yes, but not a sequel at all. Although there are several characters that bear semblance to Higurashi's, anything more than that is pure speculation on the part of the fandom. Whether they are related or not will, of course, forever be open for discussion and 'speculah', but my opinion is, similar to what you said, that the author simply wanted to increase the probability of success by somehow tying the two series. It could have been even called 'paying homage' if both Umi and Higu wreen't his own works xD
So, yeah, I agree with you that he probably did it to increase the profit, but Umineko is still quite a good VN (though the ending made some fans rage), especially if you don't judge it by making relations to Higurashi. I'd say it's got a different feel to it than Higurashi (although I never read Higurashi VN, only watched the anime, so I can't be sure how closely the anime follows it).
Well, anyway, enough about Higurashi/Umineko.
Since you mentioned Railgun, let me ask you which do you consider better, Index or Railgun. I dropped Index (then put it on an indefinite on-hold) cuz it simply dind't interest me much. But I'm curious to check Railgun nonetheless.
So it was you! (#゚Д゚) give me back the slice of life, light hearted comedy spin-off that Madoka producer wanted to make, you... alien bunny! ヽ(`Д´)ノ
Silly humans. You should understand watching light-hearted comedy will not result in suffering, hence it will not produce emotions necessary for Us to garner in order to prevent entropy. /yeahspeakinggibberish
Yeah, I understend where you're coming from (the comment about comedy), it's just that I usually prefer different types of comedy (as I mentioned before) so that doesn't always work for me. But I don't actually mind that in comedy anime; au contraire, it can be a good thing and enhance the comedic effect, epecially in parodies. No, overuse of cliches/tropes annoy me when it's clear the creators didn't want to bother with making something slightly more original or were blatantly going for pandering to a specific portion of otaku fandom. It annoys me in shows that are aiming at being serious, shows that take themselves serious. /endofrant
I'll take your advice then and stikc to Genshiken, tnx.
Note to myself: start the second season, already!
My mom has finished her first round of Radiation so we got to wait till Sept. 6th to see if it stops the growing and hopefully will shrink the tumor but they cant do surgery on her for where it is. Well have a good day/night Cat *bro fists* later man :)
Oh man, I'm so worried I've been overhyped about Evangelion. (Relatedly, I was not overhyped about Monster. Most everyone else was just wrong about it. It's an anime in the style of an 80s thriller. Most 80s thrillers are stupid and pretentious, and Monster is not an exception.)
Yes, I didn't think CG was brilliant, but I thought it was a fun enough romp. The pretentious chess motif was hilarious XD and the thousand plot contrivances are stupid. I just didn't let these things get in the way of my enjoying the story for what it is.
I finally got around to changing my rating system a bit. The first anime to be honored with 10s are Juuni Kokuki and CB, and the first to be shamed with a 1 is Canvas.
That sucks, sorry to hear about your bad time. I haven't had a particularly good few years, either, but I try not to dwell on it. Also, I think, There's at least room for improvement. :) Positivity and all that. It's corny, but some of this has helped when I'm feeling down.
Welp, I'm not great at remembering quotes from literary works either, but for some reason, that is one that got stuck in my memory. Probably because, even though I'm not a big fan of his works, 'King Lear' is my favourite play of Shakespeare's.
I have Office on all the computers I use, but I think I'll try out Openoffice when I have more time too.
Concerning Higurashi/Umineko...They are both set in the same universe (Umineko is known as When they cry 3/4), so I'd say the fact that Higurashi is a game is true whether you decide to read Umi or not. Even Umi itself is a game. But what a game, hoho... But Higurashi is not exactly mentioned a lot in Umineko (apart from certain characters seemingly being expies), so I don't think I ever get reminded about Higurashi when reading Umineko.
hehe, seacats...yeah, it's a common 'nickname' of umineko among Western/non-Japanese fans xD As they say, 'you can't spell Umineko without 'neko''. That always reminds me of this
Magical girl? Non, non, I'm...known as incubator amongst you humans xD Amongst otaku, I'm known as the most hated character of 2011.
Yeah, I'll agree that tsunderes are one of the funniest anime character types, but are, unfortunately, overused. I mean, they are everywhere, especially in mediocre anime where they reduce their character to several simple gimmicks instead of giving them personality, goddamnit. Well, similar is true for other character types as well.
I know I'd probably not really like Kujibiki, after all, from what I've seen in Genshiken, I have a clue as to what it's supposed to be. If I ever watch it it'll be because of Genshiken.
