I understand what Miyazaki meant by saying "Anime was a mistake". It's not that anime as an art is worse. Quite the contrary, anime has been getting better and better, more socially conscious in its messages and ability to cater to every person in the room. The problem is in the fandom. It's a community of toxic, unmotivated 4-chan inspired men unable to communicate with others in the real world, that use this artform as a basis to exploit their disgusting habits and wishes onto others. You people make me sick. When I see Stars Align, a show that goes out of its way to transform transphobic and misogynistic tropes into a respectful and heartfelt discussion of gender identity (a fucking real condition), never given praise for such a accomplishment and instead is condemned for being "indecisive", you not only disrespect the anime and those who spent countless hours working on it, but give a blatant middle finger to people wanting to be more involved in the medium.

It's a single volume graphic novel and it's REALLY good!
I also know of a few people that won’t watch it because of it being anthropomorphism and cgi.
