I rate purely based on my enjoyment. If I rate something 5 it doesn't mean I think it has an 'average' standard (because let's face it, what the hell is 'average',) it means I enjoyed it less than an anime I rate 6 but more than an anime I rate 4. And for the sake of a useless and vague scale, I'll say an anime which I rate 5 is one where I finish and think 'meh'.
