No worries. I haven't been too chatty lately as well.
I don't have a discord account but I'll save your username in case I make one.
I've mostly used Skype to keep in touch with some people I sometimes simulwatch together but I heard that a lot more people use discord nowadays.
Sorry to hear that.
You can message me if you want to talk, I'm usually a good listener.
Yeah, it makes sense, if you plan to spend time filling your profile, you are directly more involved with this website and the medium as a whole at the same time. It#s a pity you can't deduce anything from the data presented but it might still be interesting to list the no-gender group in the results.
I was thinking, do you also use the join date as a variable? I could imagine that people you spend a few years here might show different tastes and interests than people who just recently joined.
I didn't take into account the number of people that don't disclose their gender but it makes sense. Besides the point you mentioned I guess there's also a big amount of people who just use the site as a means to catalog what they watch and not as a pseudo social media site where they reveal information about themselves.
If there's such a clustering between men and women it's probably possible to infer the gender by how and what that particular group rates though.
Do you also use any kind of filter for people who have only a very limited amount of titles (i.e. less than 10) or who only give 10s and 1s? I don't know how widespread fake account and vote manipulation on MAL is but it's possible that it skews some results.
Pretty interesting that those that add stuff yet to be aired are split form those who add seasonals. I figured those would be the same people but there seem to be a large crowd that are only dedicated to watching the newest anime season.
When you pick your data, do you chose predominantly users that log in regularly or have a certain amount of anime watched? I always assumed a gender ratio of at least 70/30 towards men but in a lot of surveys it rarely gets that balanced which is a shame when trying to compare scores and interests. It might be confirmation bias from my part since the people I talk to a lot of other women here though.
Yeah, it does seem to have quite a big effect. I assume if Steins;Gate were on the map it would also be one of the bigger names having another season in Spring and all. Quite surprising seeing Bakemonogatari so high as well since it's finished but having so many different entries on MAL probably translated to more people putting it on their ptw lists?
The far lest cluster with Gankoutsou, Mononoke and Texhlolyze among others is also funny to be. It's among the first series I learned about when I started searching a bit more in depth about anime and it's the type of shows that are often recommended for having a strong artistic focus.
Makes me wonder the type of demographic these are catered to.
It would be interesting to see the results for sure. On first thought I would believe that it doesn't change much. There's always new members making accounts and as long as popular anime get mentioned in regular discussions, the interest to wanting to check them out will persist among newer fans. Although for some popular anime that are already over a decade old like Death note or Code Geass I could see some lower numbers.
Hi,
I just want to say that I really enjoy the research you post from time to time here on the forums. As someone who's interested in statistics of all kind, It's been very informative. :)
