You were my Secret Santa this year and I just wanted to thank you SO SO much for your recommendation. I've already finished Great Pretender and I can't wait for season 2. It's become one of my favorite shows and I gave it a 10/10! First of all, the best part of the anime (for me personally) are the characters. They're all so unique and fun to watch and I love their backstories. The story is also amazing. I never thought I wanted to watch a bunch of con-men scamming horrible rich people, but here I am! Also - the plot twists! There were plot twists on every turn and some of them I couldn't see coming at all. The art style is unique and different from most anime and I really like it!
Overall, I don't think I could've gotten a better recommendation, so thank you again! Happy New Year and I hope you had an amazing Christmas!
Hey again! I've also read the manga. Its a very compact piece, thoroughly enjoyable, and one of my favorite mangas! I've seen 3 episodes so far and, although there are several noticeable differences/ rearrangements in terms of storytelling and how the plot is revealed, it is just as, and even sometimes more so effective than even the original manga, I'd say! It somehow mimics Urasawa's art perfectly, and the very composition of it seems to add a lot in an animated format. I would have never imagined for the adaptation to read so well and even benefit the story so much! I'm stoked!
I can see that point entirely. I don't think I necessarily regretted watching it, but it wasn't good by any means. I've never heard of that game, surprisingly! I'll go and give it a look. Thank you very much for that! Sorry to put you in a tight spot since you haven't played many games.
Occultic;Nine's pacing really was abysmal, and a lot of the plot was inadequate and trivial, but I feel like it had really unique concepts and cool scenarios going for it at the very least. The characters were fun too. I feel like it was good conceptually, but the execution just fell off hard. I feel like I was forcing myself to appreciate by the end when it didn't really deserve it. I heard about the new Stains;Gate game in the works! I think it was called Steins;??? or something. Anyway, I'm pretty excited. I really hope it's not forced like Steins;Gate 0 which almost seemed like it at times, but even that turned out to be surprisingly substantial by the end. I still liked it a lot, don't get me wrong! Anyway, Have you played any visual novels or games recently that you liked? I've been looking for some unique games to try lately.
Yeah, I will! I also agree with you. I really loved the visual novels for both Chaos;Head and Chaos;Child, but the anime did it no favors at all. I feel like Occultic;Nine was fairly decent, but something seemed off about it as well. It's so interesting that Annonymous;Code's based off of the original concepts for Steins;Gate! I'm so curious as to what Steins;Gate could have been like since it's one of my favorite anime, so I really want to play that as well. Have you played it or seen anything interesting about it? By the way, thanks for the friend request!
No problem, and thanks for saying that! She's pretty much the reason why I watched the whole anime as well, heh! I plan on playing the visual novel because I heard a few good things about it, and it's supposed to have a different ending. If I ever get to it, I'll try to remember to tell you if it's an improvement from the anime!
Aw man, you have a great list! I think it's great that you put Kona from Robotics;Notes on your favorites, that's so unique. Anyway, I just wanted to say that. Have a good day!
hey! so i actually just finished watching tokyo godfathers and omg it was magical. i am way too tired to properly formulate any kind of like sophisticated take on it but it was so touching and emotional but also really easy to watch and enjoy - a really good balance between the two that's hard to get right and this movie nailed it! i really loved the main trio and the inclusion of a trans character was a nice surprise, written especially well for japan in 2003 lol. the animation was also so genuine feeling. weird detail to fixate on, but i loved the way their sniffles were animated. i rarely see crying animated that dramatically while also portraying a sense of ugly realism and i adore it. really awesome recommendation, thank you again, was a really nice watch and opened my eyes a little (-:
what's funny is i watched about five or six episodes of parasyte ages ago but had totally forgotten about it and apparently just never got around to adding it to my list lol! i do remember though that i had actually really enjoyed it up to that point, so your recommendation was successful in some backwards way. i am totally planning on getting around to rewatching it for real, so thanks for the reminder (-: (btw, your comparison of the mc to kaneki was awesome if that's what your intention was)
as for tokyo godfathers, i plan to watch it and report back asap - i've been meaning to, but i keep pushing it back. the artstyle is gorgeous - satoshi kon never missed with the artstyle. the plot seems really intriguing, so i'm excited!!
thank you for the awesome recs and i hope you had/are having a great holiday
oh i dont really read them in a row haha
i usually read a saga, which is a few arcs at most, and then take a break with a shorter manga
thats when i read monster, between one piece arcs
