I'm someone who has reached the peak of anime acceptance, all anime is CRINGE. In its deffense anime is not the only one that is cringe, a great example is the movie The Batman, the first line that Batman says is "I'm Vengeance" in a deep growly voice, now that is cringe. I'm a huge fan of the Arkham games, played and beat all 4, I personally think Batman is cool, but that line in the movie is not. This is how anime also operates, in a cringe but cool/cool but cringe fashion and I'm ok with that. If love and hate are two sides of the same coin, then cool and cringe are as well, anime can't be cool without being cringe.
