Sorry for being a bit late. I was caught up watching Steins;Gate and Made in Abyss. That was a journey. I only started watching older anime recently. There's still a long way to go and it's been a surprise for me because I had no idea what was in store. I think the difference between older and new staff is the context of their time. There was living during World War II and the Cold War that influenced a lot of those earlier works. Inevitably, as anime expanded into a lot, and cheap methods to make it came around more, the overall quality declined to the point some people think all anime is bad now. Looking through seasonal anime, there can be good ones here and there but many can't get past all the bad ones that get in the way.

About your second paragraph, that's the problem. More and more it feels like it's more about making money rather than making quality. Still, some staff can make good passion projects, such as Ongaku, though because there are limited funds and not much advertisement, they fly over the radar of a lot of people. I saw this happening last year when I was watching a lot of seasonal anime too. I tried Isekai, but the works I saw all seem the same to me. I had to look at much older ones to find the better ones. For cute girls doing cute things, K'On! was actually surprising for me because it was more than that. It has a very inspirational story about friendship and finding what you love to do. Other than that, other types of shows like that bored me.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is my second favorite anime. It's a deeply historical and politically analytical interpretation of mankind's history and their inevitable ways of self destruction, degeneracy, and war, through a huge cast of deeply fleshed out, larger than life characters. It's a grand epic. Other than that, I've watched Tytania, which has the same director. It's been lost in time, and isn't nearly as good as Legend of the Galactic Heroes, though I still enjoyed it. However, the anime doesn't finish the story, as Tanaka kept writing new novels after the anime was already done. Summaries of what happens next can be found online.

Take care.

Yes I agree nga na ma mga bagay na di nga nakakasawa and I agree also na mkikita nga un s acomic alley like Naruto, One Piece at lalo na Katekyo Hitman Reborn on my part kase isa un sa paborito kong old gen anime with Digimon( Adventure and 02, Tamers, Frontier), Inuyasha, Yakitate Japan, Prince of Tennis, Eyeshield 21 etc. For New Gen nmann ang pbaorito ay Shokugeki no Soma, Kuroko's Basketbal, Sword Art Online, Fruits Basket , Fairy Tail etc.

Sa recommendation, old gen( before 2010) or new gen(2010 onwards)? tsk what genre? may pagka wild na den kasi mga tropes sa new gen anime ngaun eh, like ecchi incase lang ayaw mo nung gnong trope hehehe para mas makapagbigay ako ng papasok s ataste mo siguro

God Bless din

Yeah. The feeling of older anime, it's writing and production, is very unique to it's time. There may be more anime now, but the lack of good shows in general makes it harder to appreciate, whereas back then there was bad anime also, but a lot less since there wasn't that much anime being made. I felt there was more depth to anime like Legend Of the galactic Heroes, for example. I am still looking for something that explores politics to that extent. Even the new adaptation, as decent as it is, falls flat on that aspect. Also the continuing pursuit of mainly profit than creativity, and also time and budget constraints really ruins a lot of newer anime. The direction anime has gone in is questionable. Still, I've tried to look and found some good ones like Odd Taxi, Sonny Boy, Violet Evergarden, Megaton-kyuu Musashi, Build Divide: Code Black, etc.

I went back to older anime because I wanted to watch what a lot of people consider classics, or influential anime that had a lot of impact. I also followed works from staff that are considered legends. I was watching too much seasonal anime which was mostly a waste of time. I think a month or two from now that list can look a lot different.

Regardless, I think it's important to watch the classics. It's like knowing your history. To understand modern anime more it's important to watch those. They paved the way for the new generations of anime and should be acknowledged and watched for their impact and influence on the medium.

NAgbabago nga actually, though may older shows na mas na aapreciate ko ngaun kesa nugn dati pag narewatch meron nmang mas nabobored ako na nagustuhan ko dati. Still, iba pa rin hit nung first time tlga noon pero tama ka nga masarap balik balikan...

Thanks. I have a lot of fond memories of waking up early to watch Sailor Moon and Pokemon before school, and catching Dragon Ball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh right when I got home, and then Cowboy Bebop at night with Adult Swim. My old Pokemon VHS tapes are worn out.
