I honestly thought I spoiled the series to everyone for a sec. I made that sig long time ago and can't change my avatars and signatures weekly like some people here. It's set in stone. I can only modify them.
As I said earlier I forgot most of the series and still patiently waiting for a DTB: Shikkoku no Hana adaptation.

For GuP: 5.5 and 10.5 can be skipped. They are infodumps about the characters, the sport and the tanks. It is narrated by Akiyama. She does drop the occasional useful tidbit: for example I believe this is where it is mentioned that the shells have a computer chip that determines if the shell penetrates or not.

So basically:

Watch 1-7

Watch "The Real Anzio Battle". It isn't a must to watch it here but makes the most sense chronologically.

Watch 8-12

Watch "The Real Anzio Battle" if you didn't do so earlier. It is important to get it in before der Film since it introduces the "Italian" girls, especially their leader Anchovy.

Watch all the Specials. These are actually pretty good and very funny in places. The first two are a bit fanservice-y (the obligatory beach episode :) The 3rd one you get a tour of the school ship which was really interesting. The MAL entry mentions 6 but there is a 7th one that features the main antagonist from der Film visiting the Ooarai school ship.

The rest of the material is Akiyama's Tank Course: IIRC these are info dumps on tank units. The Picture Drama I don't remember: I scored them 6 so I guess they were OK.

re. characters. Actually Mako was my fav the first time through and Anzu my 2nd fav but after a re-watch I came to appreciate Anzu more. Both are in my top 10 characters. As you noticed Anzu is a surprisingly deep character in that she has several character traits -- even the main 5 characters only have one or two. Another of her traits is cooking which gets featured in a later episode (and in one of the Specials). Anzu wouldn't be Anzu without Momo and Yuzu, though. That trio makes for the best student council anywhere -- so funny in the mix of personalities and body shapes. Momo has a really strong performance in der Film BTW.



Fyi I recently re-watched Hoi Hoi San a couple times: God that is so hilarious. I almost die laughing when she spares the Anderson flycatching spider and when Combat-san succumbs to the "cowardly water attack" ROFL!
