Proud Husband of Arturia Pendragon, Makise Kurisu, Itsuki Nakano and Scathach
Sharia Law is amazing
Have an interest in History, Philosophy, Magic Systems and exploring Artistic Merit
Note, before diving into my rating scale. I'm a simple man.
If I skip 0 seconds of an anime = its 10/10
Anything I say will be confirmation bias. 10/10 means every second from the opening to the ending and any inserts and any episode no matter what, NOTHING WAS SKIPPED.
Otherwise the maximum is 9/10 see below
Whenever I rate an anime, I judge it by: Artistic + Entertainment Merit, Is it worth recommending, Emotional Highs, Does it cater to my biases and most importantly NARRATIVE CONSISTENCY.
Meaning, at any point can you reliably ask the question "What's going on" or "What's the point of this" or "How did we get here" and if the Narrative Consistency is top notch then you will have a very easy answer. No complex BS needed. Its, "MC is out to get this thing so he can save this person" or "MC aims to do this for which this is necessary hence why we are here" or "This guy wants the Mcguffin cuz he wants to be rich, this guy wants it for Honor and Glory, this guy wants this to harness its power and Rule the World, and this guy wants it cuz he originally owns it"
So Format wise here are my 5 Rubrics
Rubric 1: Arts and Fun
Entertaining & Artistic Merit = 2 points
Entertaining but no Artistic Merit = 1 point
Artistic Merit but not Entertaining = 1 point
Not fun and no Artistic Merit = 0 points
Rubric 2: Recommendation
Recommend to everyone without reserve = 2 points
Recommend as a Niche = 1 point
Do not Recommend = 0 points
Rubric 3: Narrative Consistency
Completely Flawless with no room for improvement = 2 points
Some flaws or Nitpicks with room for improvement = 1 point
Garbled Mess = 0 points
Rubric 4: Emotional Moments
An emotional moment is something that evokes an immense intensity of emotions:
Happiness (You are happy and smile in joy)
Saddens (A scene makes you sob)
Thought Provoking (A scene that makes you think very deeply)
Memorable/Iconic (A scene unlike any other that will stick with you)
A good example of an emotional moment is United States of Smash by All Might in My Hero Academia, also Endeavour VS Nomu fight from the same.
Minimum 3 Emotional Moments = 2 points
Has atleast 1 emotional moment = 1 point
No emotional moments = 0 points
Rubric 5: Personal Bias
I like 3 things:
1 = History (If the anime has a rich lore or is inspired by actual history and adheres to it)
2 = Idealogue (The anime jostles with deep and thought provoking topics like the Idea of a King or the Concept of Freedom and Justice, and tries its best to explore or deconstruct)
3 = Magic Systems (Be it a hard magic system defined by rules like FMAB's Law of Equivalent Exchange, or a Soft Magic System that is more mysterious like bending in Avatar the Last Airbender)
Caters to All my Biases = 1 points
Does not cater to All my biases = 0 points
Examples:
0/10 = Promised Neverland S2
1/10 = Akudama Drive
2/10 = Dororo
3/10 = Queens Blade
4/10 = Shikimori's not just a cutie
5/10 = Shokugeki no Soma & Cells at Work
6/10 = Code Geass & Death Parade
7/10 = Jujutsu Kaisen & Cyberpunk Edgerunners
8/10 = Violet Evergarden & Cowboy Bebop
9/10 = The Promised Neverland & Fate Stay Night Heavens Feel Trilogy
10/10 = Steins;Gate & Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
(MAL doesn't have 0 rating so its in 1 as well but I place it as 'Dropped' as those that are rated 1 but I manage to finish actually belong in 1)
