Yeah I figured that it'd go downhill but not this bad lol. Kind of predictable though since as I mentioned in my rant-masquerading-for-a-review it kind of broke its own logic with that ending, therefore it could never go back. It gets pretty near impossible when you write a story that's about action and crazy violence but then want your main character to be morally unambiguous and seemingly "innocent". And ye the Youko treament sounds rough. I'd be banging my head on a wall lol.

When I started reading manga I was like 11 or 12 and I am almost 30 now. At this age I just don't have the patience for half assed bs and I definitely don't wanna read the work from someone who does not respect me, never mind as an audience member but as a person (woman). I'd rather spend my time and money elsewhere. I'd even say that if I see most types of fanservice I am out, because most of the time I just can't take that story seriously then. Very few men are capable of writing "fanservice" without dehumanizing women. Also I hate that we call it that. Aren't you reading for the story?? If I wanted softcore porn I'd be reading a different genre. Anyways, I'll check out the second title you recommended. I just started reading Fool's Night. Pretty good sci-fi dystopia, but I've only read the 1st volume. Also Heavenly Delusion's pretty interesting, but neither are action...

Yeah I don't think the author will let Youko do anything interesting ever again. It's like punishing her for being a competent woman is his kink even though he fuckin wrote her like that. Not surprised he gets her assaulted and finds a good excuse for why it has to happen even if she's this strong. That's basically his whole thing. Honestly like I said I don't even care if someone likes that kinda stuff I mean women everywhere have similar violation oriented fantasies, but why you gotta put that shit in your seinen action comedy manga like why do I gotta suffer through it TT___TT

And don't hope to read about the field trip, to talk about the Vigilante Tour of Horrors and (Non)Violence (???) would break the whole manga because it never made any fuckin sense lol. The fact that the story starts with them taking a break from it is essentially him admitting so lol. I'm the same I am mad because I liked the series TT__TT

at least I didn't buy more volumes gah I genuinely at this time and age think I deserve to demand better from mangaka. If we can have shounen not do weird misogyny anymore we can have more mature titles as well

oh lord I sincerely thought noone would ever bother reading that monster unless they were on acid or something and I'm pretty sure one day MAL will delete it but I REALLY needed to get that crap off my chest cause it was driving me insane!! Yeah I liked the series enough that all the random yikes moments dispersed in the series didn't turn me away, but the ending was a weirdass slap in the face. Very obvious the guy is just super conservative about what women's place is and he loves a good soapbox moment which went against his own writing competency. Won't even talk of the sexual violence. Apparently in the sequel he gets even worse.

Also yeah I dont know if any deep dive into a character like the Boss would explain him sponsoring their little merry vigilante field trip of *mild* violence. That shit was whack. Thank you for reading all that! TT_TT

Ye I think actually that besides the whole identity problem, none of the characters are really...shaped. For comparison even if Kaguya was half a meme cast (Fujiwara family, Hayasaka) and were mostly here for comedic effects or sidekicks, at least, they were adding to the fun. Oshi no Ko probably is just going to remain a bit boring until the end where I expect more tragedy to show up, but too late.

I may finish it, but it'll definitely not get back into being "good" with this lack of focus.

What's a One-Shot? I know there's manhwa which is Korean manga, but I've also come across 'One-Shots'. It says that they are only one chapter long but when I check them out they actually have quite a few chapters. So I'm confused. Sorry for the noob question, I'm kind of new to manga.

Ah cool, didn't know it was available in libraries. I managed to find all the volumes except 5 in the local library. I may have to buy volume 5 online, but I'll check the local bookstore first before doing that. Thanks!
