Well, Evangelion is my third favourite anime and Steins;Gate is my second, I guess I'm not the best person to give an impartial opinion, but I'll tell you what I think and I think they're both great.

Steins;Gate is perfect, I don't know about any flaw, mistake or whatever in Steins;Gate, the characters are amazing, the plot is extremely interesting, it's really funny, you'll find drama, you'll find romance, you'll find a thriller, Steins;Gate has a little bit of all genres inside it. Some people don't like its beginning, because it's more focused on comedy and Slice of Life, lookalike some kind of parody, but I love that first part.

Evangelion is kinda difficult to watch, lots of people seem not to understand it's purpose, the plot is terrific, but a little bit confusing, OST, directing and other stuff are all great. The thing with Evangelion is that its characters are "human", they're real, they've got their problems, they're flawed people and it may hurt some viewers. I strongly recommend Evangelion, even if you end up hating the anime, I think it's an experience that every human being should pass through.

I think that Darling in the FRANXX and Evangelion share some similarity.
