I actually FOUND Monster volumes in a Borders today, and I never see them! I wonder if it's 'cause the anime's airing on TV in the US, and they think the anime will make the manga more popular (so they have more of a reason to sell them).

The funny thing about scans, a lot of people I know DON'T like reading off a computer. I can understand why someone would prefer the warmth of a book. Plus, I can get some of my manga and light novel reading done when I'm riding the train or something.

The thing I don't like about fansubs . . . I'm tired of fans treating anime as if it's in public domain, and a lot of people watch fansubs first, so they always think the official subs get things wrong, when often it was actually more accurate. I don't think the creators of the works like them in particular either. I HAVE watched fansubs in the past, but I've really cut down. Plus, I kind of don't see the point of fansubs where there's so much available on legal streams.

I've been reading a lot of Monster recently--I think one of the few reasons I'm glad it's not as popular is 'cause I don't want the story spoiled for me, since there are Code Geass and Death Note spoilers all over the internet.

What's the point of scanlations when they're available in English? And what's the point of scanlations when dialogue-only translations exist (so the reader is expected to support it in some way)?

I do own the first volume of Billy Bat in Japanese, I bought solely 'cause I was sure it was Urasawa's newest. I did find an internet translation for it, and read the first chapter or less ('cause when you're reading the translation and trying to read the text, it takes twice as long).

Borders usually DOESN'T carry Monster nowadays, but I know a comic store that does. I prefer comic stores anyway because I like to support comic book stores. :) I do go to Borders if I have a giftcard or something.

Yeah, I still need to read the 8th book of Monster--they're really hard to find! Not so much for Pluto or 20th Century Boys, 'cause they're new.

I set my DVR, because they're airing Monster on Monday! YES!

I think I found someone else who loves Tenma. 8D

It was one of those movies that probably worked wonderfully as a novel, but...I dunno, it had good animation, as expected of Madhouse, but...I dunno, I couldn't really connect with any of it, and it just kind of felt like stuff happened and then it was over. I think the only Saitoshi Kon things I've enjoyed are Paranoia Agent and Tokyo Godfathers (I enjoyed Perfect Blue at the time but I'm not sure how I'd feel about it now. Want to read the book though.).

I did but I didn't really like i what all the hype was about. I'm not really a fan of Satoshi Kon (I think he's a great film maker, I just don't really enjoy what he works on much). And damn, shame Tokikake wasn't your cup of tea, I thought it was an instant classic, but hey...

Sory for the constant editing of my message BTW

You know, since you also mentioned something maybe 20+ episodes with fairly realistic desgins, I should mention Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto, a very good supernatural historical drama with really well done action scenes. Also to get back to your movie comment, besides like The Girl Who Leaped Through Time, the Rebuild of Evangelion series, Macross: Do You Remember Love?, and the upcoming Summer Wars, I can't think of too many anime movies that I've seen or been too interested in. I can double check though if some stuff missed my radar. Although, I did just recently see The Sky Crawlers, which was excellent, one of the few Mamoru Oshii films I like besides Jin-Roh and the second Patlabor movie.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
