Started watching anime in late 2015 and watched frequently until late 2017. From 2018 onwards, I watched significantly less often and I rarely watch anime nowadays, even though I still enjoy watching good series. I'm not interested in keeping up with seasonals and I dislike reading manga for various reasons. I use tags in my anime list to write down my opinions and my 'Plan to Watch' functions as a 'Reminder' list.
I only put one anime of a series and a maximum of two characters per series in my top 10 lists because I want to show variety. I put the visual novel Umineko no Naku Koro ni in the 'Manga' list, and the 'People' list is only based on voice acting performances except for Keita, whom I put there because of his interesting horror animations. The spoilers below contain the rest of my favourite anime (rated 10/10 & 9/10) and characters. I put a maximum of three characters per series since there are a lot more characters than anime.
My rating system is based on both quality and enjoyment, which are equally important. I don't write detailed analyses or reviews. Qualities I look for in anime are: Characters, Story, Character Development, Pacing, Setting, Atmosphere, Music and Animation. If an anime is lacking in one aspect, it must compensate by being strong in other aspects. Rating should be simple and efficient, there is no need to rate with percentages or subtractions etc. My rating scale is as follows:
10. Phenomenal: My favourites. However, unlike anime I rate 9/10, I consider these to be works of art that have impressed me. They have multiple scenes that are unforgettable. The best the animation industry has to offer.
9. Outstanding: My favourites. There are some I enjoyed even more than anime I rate 10/10 for various reasons so I rank them higher in my list. Flaws, if any, are minor.
8. Excellent: Entertaining, but more importantly, they shine in certain aspects. But they're not quite spectacular enough or a few things are holding them back.
7. Good: Fun to watch and doesn't have any major flaws.
6. Passable: Not great, but they were at least somewhat satisfying to watch and they have more positives than negatives.
5. Mediocre: Underwhelming anime that fail to meet minimum expectations, but aren't flawed or boring enough to warrant giving them a lower score. Some are simply generic, forgettable, or average.
4. Disappointing: Anime that have potential, but are held back by certain things.
3. Bad: Flawed, but not terrible in every single way.
2. Awful: Either a trainwreck that fails in almost every aspect, or a short animation video that offers nothing of value besides creative animation or a few laughs.
1. Irredeemable: A complete waste of time that isn't entertaining or well executed at all. The worst the animation industry has to offer.
