Yep, it's almost a crime more people aren't in it. Every couple of months on the recommendation boards, I see someone asking for anime with black characters (I have more than a couple times), so it seems like something more people would be interested in.

Aside from anime, have you seen the Black Dynamite the Animated series pilot?

Well, most of retribution's DLCs are pretty pointless. Basically they come in three categories; purely aesthetic blingee shit like the Ultramarines skin pack, largely useless bonus wargear for single player, and the occasionally useful wargear for the Last stand mode. So maybe if you enjoy the last stand mode, you could invest in some of those, at least I've found the space marine and Ork packs to be quite useful.
Either way though, if you prefer bigger armies, you might be better off getting Dark Crusade first, and then maybe Retribution once it inevitably gets cheaper or is featured in some big steam sale I guess.

For SPESSH MUHRINEEE, try the demo. Other than that, there's the multiplayer, which still plays quite like the campaign, with team deathmatch and control point matches, which is quite fun imo.

As for DoW 2, it depends on whether you like smaller scale armies with more microing. There's no more base building, and with armies like IG, you'll just be able to take a couple of guardsmen squads and a Leman Russ alongside a Baneblade, so it certainly feels very...small.
On the other hand, the campaign is relatively fun, with lots of level up and equipment, although it basically plays exactly alike, with the same missions and all, for every faction. And then you have the last stand mode which is also quite fun.
But if you enjoyed the bigger armies in DoW 1, I'd rather recommend the Dark Crusade expansion, which was pretty much the best DoW game so far imo. Or just wait for number three, which promises to have huge armies again.
