Hey, I'm Alexandria, an 19-year-old college student working towards degrees in English and French! I was first attracted to the manga and anime scene when I was a freshman in high school due to the interesting art style and plots that aren't seen very often otherwise. I've always loved all sorts of animation, to the point where I even follow a series from Italy. My dream in life is to be a novelist, and while I tend to be a genre-jumper (like CLAMP), fantasy and science fiction are the ones I tend to enjoy most in both writing and reading (though I'm kind of a bibliophile in general). While I read mainly shojo, I enjoy seinen titles and would like to start reading some more josei titles (so please feel free to recommend some to me).
Things I enjoy other than manga:
* books (Even classic literature! Words, connotations, and syntax are an art form to me!)
* MLP (But don't worry, I'm not one of the crazier bronies. Or am I...)
* Neopets (Don't laugh. But if you're curious, my username on there is "kittenkutie936," something I came up with when I was younger, and I have some short stories up.)
* Winx Club (Again, don't laugh, as it's the first magical girl-type cartoon I've ever watched, and I have a soft spot for it.)
* I have this weird thing where I randomly start analyzing people's arguments. It's not so much of a criticism or something to take offense at as it is more of a tic I picked up from a few years on the debate team.
* animals (especially dogs)
* online text roleplaying
* children (Okay, I have a huge soft spot here. I'm the type who, if you show me a picture of a baby, I'm going to start cooing at my screen for several minutes.)
* hiking
* comedy
* drawing (But only to get a rough sketch of how my characters would look.)
* classic rock
* plushies/dolls/general toy collecting
* What I like in a female character: Inner strength, not necessarily visible physical-wise, but more of a resilience. The type who's been through hell and back and just keeps living.
Especially if they happen to be
Dark Magical Girls. I probably like more female than male characters just because there's so many good examples of this in manga and anime.
* What I like in a male character: I tend to like older-brother types and the more playful guys who I could see being really close friends with. Also: gentlemanly types, guys who know how to treat a woman, intellectuals, artists, all across the board. If I develop an anime/manga crush on them, you've gone above and beyond what you've needed to do. NOTE: None if this applies if male character is a small child. I have one, but I'm not that twisted.
Things I don't like as much:
* People who just argue without any real reason or logic.
* Jerks.
* Some people out there think that anime fangirls like men who are overly forward to the point of harassment. If your definition of like is "run faster than you thought humanly possible away from them and wouldn't touch them with a thirty-nine-and-a-half-foot pole," then yes, I am one of those types. But seriously, the answer to that question is a resounding no.
* Smut. I know a lot of people like it, but it just isn't my cup of tea.
* I can be picky about grammar, but not as picky as some and it's definitely one of those things I internalize most of the time rather than simply correct.
* People who think they know everything to the point of bragging about it.
* Overly judgmental people.
* ...do you see a pattern here?
Honestly, though, don't let any of this intimidate you. I'm still relatively new to the anime world (as can be seen by the lack of programs watched), and I'm pretty open to all sorts of friendships. Basically, I'm the neighborhood Twilight Sparkle type who worries way too much about needless things, studies to try to fulfill my perfectionistic, overachieving standards, and prefers to stay alone and read most of the type, but still enjoys having a good laugh and being with friends.
More faves!
Female:
(Remember: it's okay and completely non-sexist to have "binders full of women" if they're awesome anime/manga characters!)
Male:
