My name is Sean (age 28, male) and I'm just an ordinary fan of all things anime.
The anime genres I prefer are: sci-fi, slice of life, high-school, horror, drama, ecchi, and supernatural.
The genres I'm not fond of are: loli-con, yaoi, shota-con, or guro (but I'm not against those who enjoy them and I have broken this personal rule a few times out of curiosity, usually violent, gore-filled bloodfests like Higurashi, Black Lagoon, and Hellsing).
My anime philosophy is "I'll try anything once, but if I enjoy it, I'll watch it to the end."
I first encountered anime when I was in sixth grade, watching Gigantor and Speed Racer on the Sci-fi Channel, when they used to show anime in the mornings.
I later went on to watch Toonami, with classics like DBZ, The Big O, Mobile Suit Gundam, and Lupin the III.
I got caught in the Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh crazes until I saw/heard about 4kids TV's bad reputation of heavy editing and badly translated dubs.
After that, my faith in Anime wavered and, aside from a show or two on Toonami, I took a hiatus.
Things like school, my bad health from MD, and Family Guy, diverted my attention from anime.
I also went through a period of Hentai, doujinshi, lemon fan-fics, and Aeriesdies.com and 4chan, as well as four years of World of Warcraft.
It wasn't until the fall of '09 when I returned to anime by watching English fansubs and dubs and reading manga scanlations.
What intrigued me about anime mostly were the insights into Japanese culture, the wide variety of anime across multiple demographics, and the varying degrees of art style and design (and copious amounts of fan-service).
Big-breasted female characters are just an added bonus (especially the beach/pool episodes almost every series has, basically one of many unwritten rules of anime!).
Advance a couple years or so, and here I am, with a bunch of anime series under my belt, with hundreds more just waiting to be experienced!
