I was a fan of manga and animation 40 years ago, and have been a longtime anime fan since my teenage years. However, my passion for music took over for about 20 years, causing me to stay away from manga and anime. It wasn't until I stumbled upon "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" on TV that my love for anime was rekindled.
I don't use strict criteria for scoring; instead, I rate things based on my personal view as someone who grew up in the '80s and watched a lot of anime as a kid. My aim is to share how I see things from my own perspective.
My Rating System:
10: Masterpiece – Absolutely outstanding in every way.
9: Near-masterpiece – Excellent, but with minor personal drawbacks.
8: Excellent – A work I'd love to rewatch.
7: Memorable – It has unique charm and is worth remembering.
6: Enjoyable – Entertaining and has something endearing.
5: Average – Enjoyable, but typical for Japanese anime.
4: Below average – Decent, but with some disappointing aspects.
3: Mediocre – Boring or the writing felt sloppy.
2: Dislike – Watching it felt painful; it conveyed a message I disliked.
1: Strong dislike – I didn't enjoy it at all.
Anime I don't assign a score to:
1. Dropped
a. Anime series that I didn’t finish watching.
b. Classic anime series that I might have watched during my childhood without deliberately following them. As a result, I have an incomplete viewing experience. I may have watched them once or even multiple times (through reruns), but I no longer remember if I finished them in their entirety or not.
2. Summary versions of TV anime (e.g., compilation movies), which condense the original storyline.
