I was actually surprised how much you seem to understand what I am going for! I updated my profile to show a bit about me and what I have watched. I actually had a lot of stuff that you recommended already written down on a text document that I was using to keep track of what I wanted to watch. I'll be sure to let you know what I think about the shows once I watch them.
Hi I started to return to anime after many years of not watching any because at the time the only show that really grasped my attention was Tokyo Ghoul and Attack on Titan and I found the rest to be too cringey or quirky for my taste. I am very open minded I listen to extreme subgenres of Metal so I am open to new experiences. Since I like to watch horror moves and I love the philosophy behind psychological horror/thriller movies I figured I would start my return to anime with genres like horror, thriller, psychological horror, etc. The shows I have watched and enjoyed are Tokyo Ghoul, Attack on Titan, Elfen Lied (absolutely love this show even though it's definitely flawed), Death Note, and Another. The shows I have watch and either disliked or got bored with were Naruto (got bored, too repetitive), Bleach (same reasons as Naruto), Sword Art Online (I just really dislike it), and Deadman Wonderland (I guess i'm in the minority but it just couldn't grasp my interest). What shows would you recommend? I adored Tokyo Ghoul, Elfen Lied, and Another so I would really like to watch more shows that are similar in many ways but not copy paste.
I am also watching Parasyte - The Maxim and I am definitely enjoying it but I wouldn't consider it something that has enough emotional hook for me to consider it an absolute favorite
