Why hello there
I am a self-aware, shameless, pretentious asshole who derive pleasure out of criticising people's favourite cartoons. After a couple years of ingesting anime at break neck pace, I have come to the realisation that bashing anime is far more engaging and stimulating than watching them superficially and seeking shallow enjoyment. My personal philosophy:
+Stated by Sturgeon himself, like all things, 90% of anime, regardless of age and genre, is shit
+Light Novels are special; they are 99% shit
+My favourite cartoons are objectively better than yours
+The anime industry is far too deep in their junk food crap right now it's not salvageable and the nail in the coffin is the announcement of the second season of No Game No Life
CURRENTLY ADDICTED TO:
- ZERO TWO (please lick me)
Seasonal corner
Every season recommendations:
-Watch whatever! who knows maybe you'll like it (just know that 90% of anime is shit)
But you could try
- DARLING IN THE HYPUUU
- VIOLET EVERGARDEN
- Saiki kusuo
- Takagi-san
The masochist's recommendations:
- Grancrest senki if you're into isekai maso
-
2017 HALL OF FAME:
1. Fate /Apocrypha
2. Eromanga sensei
3. Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou FUCK
4. Koi to uso
5. Ousama game (honorable mention)
Since I have no life and follow a lot of seasonal anime, might as well do some extra writing about them. My blog: where I occasionally post my rant about seasonal stuff Spreadsheet: where I keep record on my seasonal rating and some comments
Senpai said I would look cool with GIFs so I proclaim my waifus:
Rating system:
As you may (or may not) have noticed, I use a rather steep scale for rating anime. The main reasons I do so is because 1. I prefer having more room for comparison than the current MAL average rating (ie 7-10) and 2. I think rating should also take in consideration the quality of writing for the characters/story and also the production value rather than just enjoyment. Of course I am well aware that all these are still my subjective views on them but it doesn't mean you have to agree them either; if you think your rating for the show is fitting then I can say nothing about it. I am happy to discuss about the flaws of most anime on a intelligent level. please ignore the numbers on my tags, they're just random gibberish I use to justify my score
Story & character: the main part I would analyse to rate a series. Generally I look for a coherent, interesting and well-paced story; characters should have some depth and receive proper development at some point in the show. However the fluidity between these elements is often overlooked when not taken into account that the characters are part of the story. As such, I tend to shift the weighting between the 2 criteria depending on the anime ie judging K-on by its story is silly.
Production value: pretty simple criteria here. The animation should look decent (for its time of production) and not too inconsistent. The sound track and voice acting also plays a part in making a good anime.
Enjoyment: generally I avoid letting enjoyment having too much weight on my rating but it's by no mean not important. There's no point in watching a anime if I'm not enjoying (or enjoying hatewatching) it. However enjoyment is highly subjective and I dont think most people would want to see Mars of Destruction topping the MAL leaderboard.
Rating scale: Note that these are relative to only things I have watched; not going to pretend I know about every anime
10. Pierce the heavens: Reserved for the ideal anime (that I will probably never watch) which I use to compare series against. For now, I use it to fanboy TTGL because who the hell do you think I am?
9. Top tier: The best of the bests. Story and characters beyond great. Highly recommended.
8. Exceptional: amazing story with strong characters. Has a very memorable trait that makes them stand out. Best of their genres. Would definitely reccomend.
7. Very good: Less flaws more entertainment, demonstrate ability in story telling and fleshing out characters. The best "normal" anime. Would mostly recommend.
6. Good: above average, has noticeable merits but still have evident flaws. Would recommend depend on context.
5.5. Decent: has some defining trait that make them more entertaining than average but not quite good.
5. Average: My default grade when I'm unsure what to give. run of the mill anime with some merits but similar amount of flaws. Some try hards can be found here. would rarely recommend.
4. Below Average: subpar with more flaws than average anime would have but still entertaining to a degree. Would avoid recommending.
3. Bad: poorly written and executed with 1-2 redeeming features (mostly good looks). Would not reccomend.
2. Seriously bad: bottom of the barrel, mostly very boring, poorly written, would only recommend to the worst of enemies.
1. Glorious: especially bad, so bad it's enjoyable. I generally enjoyed these and would recommend them rather than a 2/10, except Oreimo 2 specials, no one should ever watch that.
0. Re:zero/10: maliciously and cynically written piles of steaming self-important garbage. Deserve every word of criticism. consisting of Re:zero and Cross Ange.
