Hello! I'm Anri, I joined MAL around mid-2021, but I've been watching anime consistently since 2017. I love anime, but I love other things too, those things are: Fashion, Visual Novels, drawing, collecting, etc. I am not always active on MAL, I come and go so my list updates are very spontaneous and I do tend to forget to add to my list. There are probably about 10 anime I have forgotten to add in my list that I am just not aware of yet.
1:
A One equates to “The Worst Anime/Manga I’ve Ever Watched/Read”, so bad that I’d consider it insulting to the industry as a whole. Bad in a way where the act of consuming it is enough to make me experience genuine agitation rather than disinterest. 2:
Completely dull and uninteresting, something so soulless and of poor quality. An experience of boredom so dreadful that I’d have to take multiple, long phone breaks. 3:
Though objectively bad, there are certain details that have some sort of value. However, still greatly lacking in terms of enjoyment. 4:
I believe there is a glimpse of a spark beneath its creation, and certain aspects in which I can see how it can be enjoyed by others, but it isn't enough for me to simply say “I thought it was OK”. Flawed, but not in a way that completely ruins the overall experience for me. 5:
I can say “That was OK.” A Five is when it’s OK, not exactly good nor bad. I wouldn’t say it was a complete waste of time to consume it but I’d rather watch something else. Nothing majorly good or majorly bad. 6:
A six is the basis of entertainment, something that I can easily qualify as “good.” Worthy enough for me to be able to say “I enjoyed that.” Six is enough for me to be satisfied, but not enough for me to be fully immersed by its elements. 7 and 8:
I can consider a Seven and Eight to be absolutely great. An Anime or Manga I wholeheartedly enjoyed, and have genuine respect for. It fits my criteria of enjoyment, and what I believe should be the basic standard of Anime and Manga. A few minor imperfections, but nothing drastic enough to change my overall view on the work as a whole. 9 and 10:
Phenomenal. Crazy good, the type of “good” where after watching I’d have to get up from wherever I was resting on and take a peruse around my room. An Anime or Manga that has me in a chokehold upon viewing, not solely based off of the plot alone but also the characters as well as every little detail implemented into it. Works of art where I can feel a genuine connection to as a person. Usually with works I place in this tier, I don’t have a very “sophisticated” explanation as to why I enjoy them so much. Ratings at this tier are almost always purely from the heart, my emotional captivation washes out any possible flaw that could be taken into consideration. Worthy of my heart and soul.
