I watch anime to view stories through the perspective of realistic characters in fantasy settings and/or facing problems based outside of the boundaries of reality that cannot be captured by non-animated western media. Watching them change and adapt to their circumstances can't be recreated in reality. Though, seemingly contrived, with my prior reasoning, anime with no "fantasy" elements can still be "good" to me as any genre of art can be captivating in its own ways.
Just because you like something does not in retrospect make it necessarily good, enjoyable, and/or justifiable, and etc. Vice-versa goes for things you dislike. You can feel either whilst still recognizing flaws and strengths. That is how to truly remain unbiased, so I try to make my scores reflect that notion.
Ratings (Explained):
10⭐ : An anime that masterfully trancends solely entertainment value and inspires a flurry of thoughts and emotions that caused a lasting effect on me as a person. It has stuck to me and will continue to stick to me for a very long time. Containing captivating characters, themes, and stories that can be revisted a multitude of times whilst still retaining its values with even more to be appreciated after and during each rewatch.
9⭐:An anime that rivals a masterpiece and is only outdone by a small margine in its execution of its properties in comparison or has yet to see NECESSARY completion to reach "perfection"
8⭐:Still incredible in its own right the anime simply feels like it simply fell shy of greatness with only a few flaws in its execution or I've seen other series do it better
7⭐:Simply GOOD and doesn't have anything too noteworthy or captivating to ascend to greatness. Didn't stick to its repertoire of forte(s) well enough.
6⭐:An anime that doesn't execute the aspects that would make it necessarily good but still has them none the less.
5⭐:A completely average and by the book that never stands out but still
retains its entertainment value.
4⭐:A little less than average with slightly sub-par aspects than the norm but can still be enjoyable.
3⭐:An anime so bad its good that has entertainment value and can be used as an example to
understand where a lot of series go wrong.
2⭐:It's still terrible but shows some semblance to "entertainment" and its lack there of.
1⭐:Something that shouldn't be considered art that I wasted my time on and now feel disappointed in myself as I will never forget the abomination I witnessed.
