Fang Yu attended school in China until the Cultural Revolution in 1966. He came to Germany in 1984 and later studied German and Sinology at the Second Foreign Languages University in Beijing. Between September 1985 and February 1990 he was a guest student at the Berlin University of the Arts in acting and theater studies. He currently lives in Berlin.
