Graduate of Osaka Kyoiku University Ikeda High School and of Waseda University Literature Course.

He spent his childhood in Bombay, India. He graduated from the School of Letters, Arts and Sciences I in Waseda University. His debut work, Shiroi Shiroi Natsuyanen, was awarded the Grand Chiba Tetsuya Prize in 1984. He won an Excellence Prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival and the Award for Excellence at Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize for Shindou in 1999. His major work includes Oretachi ni Asu wa Nai ssu. He has held a lectureship at the Faculty of Manga, Department of Manga, Kyoto Seika University, since 2006.
