The Hibike! Euphonium 10th Anniversary Event announced the production of Saishuu Gakushou Hibike! Euphonium (Sound! Euphonium: The Final Movie), scheduled for a 2026 premiere. The event also unveiled a teaser visual (pictured) and an announcement promo. The promo denotes the movie as "the theatrical version of Season 3."

Hibike! Euphonium adapts Ayano Takeda's music drama novel, which she penned under the Takarajimasha Bunko imprint from December 2013 to June 2019, featuring illustrations by Nikki Asada. Takarajimasha published the two-volume Rikka Koukou Marching Band e Youkoso spin-off in August–September 2016.

The Tobitatsu Kimi no Se wo Miageru (Watching as You Fly Away) spin-off volume depicting the band seniors' graduation and a collection of short stories, Kitauji Koukou Suisougaku-bu no Minna no Hanashi (Stories from Everyone in the Kitauji High School Concert Band), were released in February 2021 and June 2024, respectively.

Produced by Kyoto Animation, the first two anime seasons aired in Spring 2015 and Fall 2016, each running for 13 episodes. The Kitauji Koukou Suisougaku-bu e Youkoso (Welcome to the Kitauji High School Concert Band) and Todoketai Melody (May the Melody Reach You!) compilation movies opened in Japan in April 2016 and September 2017.

The Liz to Aoi Tori (Liz and the Blue Bird) side story movie premiered in April 2018. The Chikai no Finale (Our Promise: A Brand New Day) sequel movie premiered in April 2019, taking place during the second school year. The Ensemble Contest-hen sequel screened in August 2023.

Hibike! Euphonium 3 (Sound! Euphonium 3), the third season and latest installment in the franchise, aired in 13 episodes in Spring 2024, adapting Kitauji Suisougaku-bu, Ketsui no Saishuu Gakushou (The Kitauji Concert Band's Decisive Final Movement), the final two volumes in the main story.

Crunchyroll simulcast all three seasons with subtitles. Pony Canyon USA released the first season on home video between June 2016 and August 2016, followed by the second season in August and November 2018. Eleven Arts licensed both compilation movies, the Liz to Aoi Tori side story movie, and the sequel movie in North America.

Final movie or final final movie? Hmmm

Confusing really

@perseii All they can really do is expand on Kumiko x Shuichi (the season literally reduced an entire arc to a few subtle hints for those who read the original), add "where are they now" for side characters (the season just ignored that), and more adequately close out Reina's arc (the season also just hinted at that). The author already gave permission for the original material, so they can add some of their own. But I'm a little afraid they'll try to retcon something again.

Yeah, I meant the two compilation films, not the 2nd year movie.

Season 3 got a lot of criticism for being too rushed, so maybe they decided to release a movie for a more complete ending.

I don't see how they can fix this with a re-adaptation that's shorter.

If they're going to make changes and put in mew material, I'd argue that it's not just the ending that needs changing, but rather half the season...

But it's pointless to speculate anyway, when we don't even know if they're changing anything at all. I'm betting on "no."

@perseii The original films were very successful, but I don't know about the compilations. Season 3 got a lot of criticism for being too rushed, so maybe they decided to release a movie for a more complete ending. But I don't know what they can change.

The promo denotes the movie as "the theatrical version of Season 3."

I guess the previous two movies made a lot of money? At least those movies could tide people over until the next season dropped, but this movie can't do that...

I hope this does okay for KyoAni, but since I was satisfied with Season 3 and found closure, I see no reason to check this out...

@sasahara_n I thought season 3 was rushed because they wanted to close this IP as quickly as possible after Yamada left and move on to new projects...but now they're releasing a recap.

it's too sad that KyoAni waste their time to compilation movie no one needed rather than working on new projects.

Was season 3 so rushed, with entire arcs practically reduced to a couple of subtle moments, only because they decided to close the adaptation with the theatrical version of the season?
