'Anne Shirley' Unveils Additional Staff, Teaser Promo

The official website for the Anne Shirley television anime series revealed additional staff, key visual, and a teaser promotional video on Wednesday. The anime is scheduled to broadcast for 24 episodes starting on April 5 at 6:25 p.m. on E-NHK.

Art Director: Tadashi Kudou (Katanagatari)
Color Design: Shiho Kuriki (City Hunter Movie: Tenshi no Namida)
Director of Photography: Shinji Saitou (Otona Joshi no Anime Time)
Sound Director: Kisuke Koizumi (Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon)
Music: Michiru Oshima (Little Witch Academia)

Hiroshi Kawamata (Otona Joshi no Anime Time) is directing the anime at The Answer Studio. Kenichi Tsuchiya (Kotonoha no Niwa) is designing the characters.

The anime adapts Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables novel which was first published by L.C. Page & Co. in 1908. Over the years, it was released in 36 languages and sold more than 50 million copies.

A 50-episode television anime by Nippon Animation aired in 1979, followed by a 39-episode prequel in 2009. A recap movie compiling the first six episodes of the original anime premiered in July 2010 at the Ghibli Museum.

So far so good. What I'm seeing in art direction is what we needed; more Heisei charm which was feared lost for good with the onset of the Isekai-Reiwa era.

@RobertBobert I mean it's not an especially long book, however IDK lol. Book to anime adaptions are tough, and I haven't read the book nor watched the anime since I was in HS, so my memory is kinda fuzzy on the pacing.

Two cours? Will they be able to adapt the entire book with this number of episodes?

@BilboBaggins365 The main thing is the books, and not the last life action series. I heard that this is a classic “content for a modern audience”.

@Ambeon Hopefully it gets people to read the books too. I actually need to read the others, beyond the first book. I saw some episodes of the old TV drama where Anne is a teacher though I never read Anne of Avonlea. Would be cool if they adapted the other books too.
