Yoshifumi Tozuka's Undead Unluck manga ended in the ninth issue of this year's Weekly Shounen Jump on Monday. The 239th and final chapter marked the manga's five-year run.

Tozuka began drawing the action supernatural manga in Weekly Shounen Magazine in January 2020. Shueisha shipped the 24th volume on January 4 and will release the 25th on February 4.

David Production adapted the manga into a 24-episode television anime series in Fall 2023. Disney+ simulcasts the anime through Hulu with subtitles and an English dub. A one-hour special episode is scheduled to premiere in Winter 2025.

VIZ Media and Shueisha simulpublish the manga in English on its Manga Plus app and website. The former also publishes the manga in physical format and released the 18th volume on January 21. The 19th volume is planned for an April 15 release.

Synopsis
After reading the conclusion of her favorite manga series, Fuuko Izumo finally feels ready to end her existence. For the past 10 years, Fuuko has been afflicted by a condition that brings extreme misfortune to anyone who touches her. This has had a drastic effect on her surroundings, even inadvertently resulting in the deaths of those around her—including her parents.

As she stands on a bridge above train tracks, Fuuko is touched by a strange man, causing the footing underneath him to break and dropping him in front of an oncoming train. However, when Fuuko finds the man's corpse, she discovers that his body is regenerating and that he is coming back to life.

The man, whom Fuuko names Andy, is immortal—and like her, he also wishes for death. Initially dismissive, Fuuko eventually decides to team up with Andy to give him the best death possible; but a mysterious organization lurks in the shadows, hoping to take advantage of the duo's bizarre abilities. @Nidhoeggr I see, so it was rushed. But do you feel like it resolved all of the conflicts and that the author told the story he wanted to?

Nooooo.

I'll miss Undead Unluck, it was so unique and had such scrappy, likable characters.

Loved the series and I’m sad to see it go but it stuck the landing and ended in a very satisfying way, which has been seemingly rare for most WSJ series.

@yamiyugi101 Thanks for support. Well, I don't know if UU will get a full adaptation, but at least now I can tackle the anime more calmly.

@RobertBobert yep very tragic 😥 I sincerely hope you get one one day

@yamiyugi101 It seems fate is unusually cruel to all showbiz stories that are not shoujo or all-male/all-female media franchises. Although I think that the Act-Age story was especially sad, considering that the cancellation of the manga was only indirectly dependent on the actions of the author and that, according to rumors, an adaptation of the manga was already in the plans.

@RobertBobert yeah not many deep stories about the acting industry act age filled the niche before but the writer was a pervert

@yamiyugi101 If only you knew how desperately I am looking for a series that can fill the void in me from Oshi no Ko...

Jan 26, 6:44 PM by RobertBobert

@RobertBobert yep life is weird that way lol I'm personally going to miss both but new series will come to fill the void

Jan 26, 6:38 PM by yamiyugi101

@yamiyugi101 So, just a funny coincidence?

Jan 26, 6:36 PM by RobertBobert

Tbh it's a miracle this series even GOT an ending, everything was so against it I was sure it would be axed years ago.

Jan 26, 6:34 PM by RippleLover

@RobertBobert nah yozakura started it's final arc earlier than UU and the villains in UU tried to start the final arc once before the final arc began the final arc was meant to start where it started and ended where it needed to end

Jan 26, 6:28 PM by yamiyugi101

@yamiyugi101 I am more interested in whether there was any connection between the completion of UU and the Yozakura precisely at this moment, since both mangs were known for a specific will to life despite mediocre sales.

Jan 26, 6:18 PM by RobertBobert

@RobertBobert well yeah UU had a good ending that was thematically sound if not a bit rushed I'm rereading the final arc now

@yamiyugi101 I'm not going to justify or protect the Kubo. I just want to say that this is far from a ceiling of career self-destruction, which the author could achieve.

I kinda enjoyed the anime, but not sure if there’s gonna be S2. Guess I’ll read the manga then.

Jan 26, 6:13 PM by Geark77

@RobertBobert it don't read oshi no ko so I don't know all I'm talking about is kubo and the lies that persist about his work
