Voice actress Fairouz Ai, widely recognized for her roles in JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Stone Ocean (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean) as Jolyne Kuujou and Chainsaw Man as Power, has announced a partial restriction of her professional activities due to a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The news was shared on December 31 via her talent agency, Raccoon Dog, and her official social media account.

According to the agency's statement, the decision to limit her activities was made under the guidance of medical professionals, prioritizing her recovery. The statement also expressed apologies to fans and colleagues for any concerns or inconvenience caused, asking for their understanding and support during this time.

In her personal message, Fairouz explained that she had been diagnosed with PTSD several months ago. Despite her efforts to meet expectations and continue her work, she decided that focusing on treatment and recovery was the best course of action. She thanked her agency and those around her for their support, emphasizing her determination to return stronger.

Fairouz also requested privacy regarding the cause of her condition, which she attributed to private circumstances, urging fans to refrain from speculation or intrusive comments. She expressed her gratitude to fans, production teams, and the characters she has portrayed, vowing to make a full recovery and return to the industry she loves.

Due to her condition, Fairouz will temporarily step back from her role as the Friday host on the Abema variety show Seiyuu to Yoasobi (Say You to Yoasobi), with Nobuhiko Okamoto stepping in as her replacement.

Fairouz Ai has built a stellar career in anime, voicing iconic characters such as Hibiki Sakura in Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? (How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?), Delta in Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! (The Eminence in Shadow), and Kikoru Shinomiya in Kaijuu 8-gou (Kaiju No. 8). Her works earned her the Best New Actress Award at the 14th Seiyuu Awards in 2020.

PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder, is a mental health condition triggered by traumatic events, affecting approximately 1.3% of Japan's population. While many recover within months, some cases require extended treatment. Fairouz has pledged to dedicate herself to her recovery and hopes fans will continue to support her characters and projects during her absence.

@ItachiDeltaForce I would assume she's experienced something a bit more traumatic than drinking tea or having too much disposable income.

ptsd from what?? drinking tea & being filthy rich?

@mal_user_2022 It's how show-business has worked like for decades, sadly. What's more, VAs in the anime industry are also celebrities, so it's obvious why many of them share details about themselves taking a break etc. If they weren't, hardcore news-craving fans would spread gossips that would surely be used by journalists. It's better for a celebrity to act before such stuff happens, in my opinion.

Ok, umm, why do we live in this overshare culture? It's none of our business why a VA is taking a break.

Hopefully she gets the rest she needs. She's certainly been busy recently.

Yep read about it on ANN on New Year's Eve, and I wish for her a quick and swift recovery.

It's really unfortunate to hear. She's talented and in the recent years we could hear her voicing main characters in various popular hit anime. I wish her fast recovery.

Hmm

So its a partial restriction
I think shes in at least one anime or so this season (unless those have already all been fully recorded in advance) so I was kinda confused
Dunno if she has been confirmed for other anime for the rest of the year

An odd situation for sure

Good thing she took a break instead of pushing forward with such a condition. Health is more important than entertainment and if people have to suffer poor health so that we can enjoy our favorite forms of entertainment, then maybe that entertainment just isn't worth it.

Take care Ms Fairouz, I hope you get well and can revive your career to full strength in the future.

I liked her gremlin energy as Power, and I liked how her voice sounds in other shows too, like NegaPosi Angler last season.

Really looking forward to her full recovery and return.

You will become better, I'm sure of it. All the characters you voiced are overcoming a lot of hardships. Jolyne, the reason you started voice acting, is the best example. Surely, you will overcome this hardship.

It's unfortunate to hear that, PTSD is no joke.
She's talented and still got a long career ahead. Hope she'll get better and I wish her the best.

Mental illness is no joke....... especially with something like PTSD messing with daily life to the point of affecting work. I hope Fairouz is able to recover!
