'Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu' Reveals Main Cast, Staff, Teaser for Summer 2025

Production company Kadokawa opened an official website for the Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu (The Summer Hikaru Died) television anime on Wednesday, revealing the main cast, staff, a teaser visual (pictured), and teaser promo. The anime series adapting Mokumokuren's supernatural mystery manga will air on Nippon TV in Summer 2025. Netflix will exclusively stream the anime worldwide. Abema will also stream the anime free of charge.

Voice actors Chiaki Kobayashi (Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai) and Shuuichirou Umeda (Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto) are starring as Yoshiki Tsujinaka and Hikaru Indou, respectively.

Mokumokuren originally posted the manga on their X (formerly Twitter) account before beginning serialization on the Young Ace UP website in August 2021. Kadokawa published the fifth volume on June 4, with the sixth volume going on sale on December 4. The manga has a cumulative 2.1 million copies of its volumes in circulation, including electronic versions.

Mio Nukaga began penning a light novel adaptation under the Kadokawa Shoten label in December 2023.

Yen Press licensed the manga in English in September 2022 and released the fourth volume on August 20. The fifth volume is planned for a March 18, 2025 release. The company also licensed the light novel adaptation in English this October.

Who would have thought that Shuiichiro Umeda would play Hikaru, I thought he would be filled by an energetic and silly voice actor, but I like it because Hikaru sounds more natural like a normal high school boy.

@Temperanced as someone who is caught up with the manga, BL isn't a big part of it, it is a sub plot that should be more developed as the story goes on but currently someone whose strong suit aren't romantic undertones probably wouldn't notice it.

(it is tagged on some sites as a bl horror mystery and not just a supernatural mystery tho)

@Memore Cygames Pictures is a new, fantastic studio. Everything they put out so far was great quality. They're great at getting skilled people to work together on their episodes.

@Memore Sorry I don't know I have not seen any of the anime they have worked on. But I have seen clips from their Uma Musume Side story and it was good.

the team seems very promising I was interested in the story, I think it's funny that the work is being released in the summer, since that's the season where the story takes place.

I see the director, I see chief animation director, very very solid, no, VERY VERY GOOD main staff. Idk what AniP they will probably pick, but if I had to take a guess it would be Ueuchi Kenta (上内健太) One of the very very promising Animation Producers out there, came from Cloverworks all the way to CygamesPictures, also the AniP of Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls - U149 one of the most underrated and very well done works from him and also Princess Connect. This Studio and the talent they got in there arsenal is super promising. Can't wait to see what the talent does on this show
