Publishing company Drecom Media announced an anime adaptation of Kumo Kagyuu's Blade & Bastard light novel on Sunday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured) and teaser promo.

Kagyuu, the author of Goblin Slayer, began penning the action fantasy novel under the DRE Novels imprint in December 2022, featuring illustrations by Overlord illustrator so-bin. The fourth volume went on sale on July 10.

Makoto Fuugetsu (Uchiage Hanabi, Shita kara Miru ka? Yoko kara Miru ka? manga) began drawing a manga adaptation on the DRE Comics website in January 2023. The third volume shipped on May 24, with the fourth volume set for an October 25 release.

J-Novel Club licensed the light novel in English for digital release in November 2022 and published the fourth volume on July 10. Yen Press licensed the manga adaptation in English in April 2024 and published the first volume on October 15. The publisher is also releasing the light novel in physical format.

Synopsis
Deep in the unexplored reaches of the dungeon, a corpse is discovered—one that shouldn't exist. After Iarumas is resurrected, his memories of life before death are gone, and he spends his days delving into the dungeon to retrieve the bodies of dead adventurers. Can they be revived as well? Or will God reduce them to piles of ash on the altar? Either way, Iarumas collects his finder's fee. And though his skills earn him some grudging respect, he's also scorned for this cold, utilitarian attitude.

The living keep their distance—Iarumas consorts primarily with the dead. That is, until he meets Garbage, a feral young swordswoman who's the sole survivor of a massacred party. With Garbage by his side, Iarumas ventures deeper, scouring the dungeon for clues to his past, avoiding monsters, traps, and the inevitability of a permanent ashen demise. Probably not for me, but I admire that the author sticks to what he knows.

@thebrentinator24 There is a manga called "Legit Garbage" that Bones is adapting. Maybe you would like that too.

Definitely sounds like my cup of tea. ( But that "Garbage" name, I mean seriously ? some Japanese authors are just beyond stupid or crazy Lmao )

Kagyuu, the author of Goblin Slayer,

Aaaaaand auto skip . No reason to waste time. But seriously this mangaka should try out writing normal stories for a change

The author should be careful to not cut himself on all that edge.

I've been wanting to read this light novel ever since volume 1 came out, maybe now is the time.

Looks a lot promising, but a female lead with the name Garbage and the personality of a wolf/dog https://myanimelist.net/character/253731/Garbage ? What?

By the author of Goblin Slayer?! And the same artstyle as Overlord?! Yep, definitely watching this when it airs. Wonder what studio will be doing it. Hoping for a third season of Goblin Slayer too.
