The Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu (The Dangers in My Heart) retrospective screening fan appreciation event announced an anime movie adaptation of Norio Sakurai's romantic comedy manga on Sunday.

The movie will be a special edition of the television anime, featuring newly added footage and will depict the story of Ichikawa and Yamada after the events of the series. Original creator Sakurai drew an illustration to commemorate the announcement (pictured).

Produced by Shin-Ei Animation, the first anime season aired in 12 episodes in Spring 2023, followed by the 13-episode second season in Winter 2024, adapting the first eight volumes. Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime series in North America and streamed both seasons on HIDIVE with subtitles and an English dub.

Weekly Shounen Champion originally began serializing the manga—also known by its short name Bokuyaba—in March 2018 before it switched to Champion Cross the following month, and then to Manga Cross in July that year. Akita Shoten published the tenth volume on April 8, with the 11th volume planned for a November 8 release. Bokuyaba has a cumulative 5.5 million copies of its volumes in print.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in December 2020 and released the eighth volume on April 23. The ninth volume will go on sale on October 22.

Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu Movie on MAL

So the first two seasons adapted all of the currently available volumes, and volume 9 isn't released yet. The movie will include a recap with new scenes not from the show. Kinda sounds like the movie is just adding filler to wait for new story to adapt.

Does this mean it's the end of the anime?

Looks like I need to read more of the manga as in the S2 area still. Glad to see this series still going. Is it the next Takgai-san with constant support for it never slowing down? Besides the content differences.

With Reading Boku Yabai, comparing to Yuiko-san or another forgetting right now (Gotou-san) and these series showing the closeness but well executed I think of moments but for a shounen audience then a seinen one (Yuiko) and more reflective it's interesting to me the series is getting the success. I'm not deep into emotional moments or the subtext/romance and how they handle some comedy or will they won't they but I just think this one does it fairly well of balancing it more then I'd usually expect.

That aside if a recap movie sigh. So an Accel World Burst probably of recap things and minor new content at the end or changes in-between the recap/cutting for time or things they don't like from the tv show season, or recap as the whole film like I remember Shakugan no Shana recapped the first 6 episodes or something, wow how pointless.

I hate those approaches to films why not just go eh new content, time saving or recap episodes and all that I get for time sake for the studios but for us viewers it just sucks.

If Bunny Girl Senpai or Girls Und Panzer can do a single season and films throughout I think it makes sense, they keep going and balance out other projects.

I hate them doing it but I mean at least they get going even if the releases are eh to wait for or not always easy to access either, physical or fan translations but even still at least we see them then tv show seasons where we wait years and see nothing.

It sounds like part recap, part new story. No idea how'd that work without making a rushed mess.

cool, something to tide me over until another season airs (i assume), still my aoty so far and i'm probably gonna buy a couple volumes and maybe start following the manga.

huh, pretty weird--i was not expecting anything new from bokuyaba until like 2026 like some folks have mentioned here.

Whats interesting to note tho, is that its including newly added footage AND covering some of the events after season 2. This means we might get an adaptation of the X.5 (extra) chapters that took place in btwn some episodes which never got adapted. if thats the case, im more hyped to see it :)

An OVA is not as great as an advertised as a movie, I would say, at least they must be thinking like this.

Was pretty hyped when I saw this, but it's just a recap movie? Eh, pass then...

@TiagoCosta I see. I am still doubtful they're gonna push for S3. But if they are actually saving some material and stuff for that, then I am all for it. I do want to see more of Bokuyaba anime.

@krisalice85 They are saving the new material for a S3.

100% a way to keep the series relevant, while enough material is pilling up.

By 2025 there will be enough to start working on it.

Wow! So excited for this! It's gonna be a pretty long wait since it's in movie format. I am really not expecting a season 3 since most romance anime tend to really end when the couple starts dating. This already happened in season 2 and there's not enough material to adapt anyway so it's really unlikely they'll push for S3. As a fan of the show, I still want to see more but a movie or an OVA is what I'm only expecting, to show a little bit of the relationship of Yamada and Ichikawa after the events of season 2(probably the first kiss or something) and pretty much conclude everything for the anime even though the manga is still on going.
However I am confused as to why they will include some sort of a recap of the whole series in the actual movie. Does it seriously not have enough material for a full movie? BTW, I haven't read the manga because I prefer watching the anime so please no spoilers from the manga.

@Yubisoft well as it says they will add some events after anime series so u can basically call this somewhat OVA but turning it into movie gives them option of making more money through theatrical release

I am perfectly aware to be honest that's why I said

@Yubisoft its simple they want to keep it relevant until new season comes out which would be around fall 2026 to be earliest as their is not enough material as it left only 4-5 ch after anime conclusion

Sep 29, 4:03 AM by Chichi123

Movies are the easiest source to earn money. So there’s that, and anyway manga still doesn’t have enough content, so I’d rather if they take their time and then announce season 3.

Looking forward btw.

I don't get it . Why waste manpower and budget on such a stupid thing instead of focusing on a new season while waiting or new books to be published . Has Japanese animation industry become so stupid and greedy like the western animation studios ?

Sep 29, 3:07 AM by Yubisoft

Glad to see this title is so popular in Japan.

Sep 29, 2:52 AM by RobertBobert

Nice hopefully we get s3 too.

Sep 29, 2:48 AM by Sigmar-Unberogen

S2 was AOTY for me which naturally means I'm super stoked! Expecting more of a bonafide compilation in all honesty but I'll take any of that after story they're hinting.
