The 25th and final episode of Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf (Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf) ended with an announcement on Tuesday that a second season for the anime is in production. The official website also revealed a new visual (pictured).

Produced by animation studio Passione, the new anime series adapting Isuna Hasekura's adventure fantasy light novel began airing on April 2. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with multiple subtitles and dubs.

Hasekura originally submitted the novel at the Dengeki Novel Prize in 2005 and won the Silver Prize. Media Works (later ASCII Media Works, now Kadokawa) began publishing the series through its Dengeki Bunko label in February 2006, featuring illustrations by Juu Ayakura. Kadokawa published the 24th and latest volume in January 2023.

Hasekura launched the Shinsetsu Ookami to Koushinryou: Ookami to Youhishi (Wolf & Parchment: New Theory Spice & Wolf) spin-off light novel in September 2016. Kadokawa released the 11th volume on September 10.

Yen Press licensed both light novels in English and published the 24th volume of the original novel in August 2023. The ninth spin-off volume will go on sale on October 1.

@Nachtwandler_21 Not sure, I downloaded the books some 10 years ago and don't have access to them currently to confirm. I might not be a native English speaker but I can tell that it doesn't sound natural.
When was the Yen Press one released again?

Love it when the sequels are announced right away. I didn't doubt this one.

@Aizix say what? Spice and Wolf translation is one of the best Yen Press made. They do have bad translations ("No Game No Life", "Rokka no Yuusha" for example) but calling this one awkward is really odd. Unless you are reading some bad fantraslation instead.

That was quick, but expected. I will be there no matter what.

YES! Finally getting to see the continuation without forcing myself to read the awkwardly translated books.
Best news of the last couple years.

@dimidrum for me it does. It hass better animation, they did not change things compared to novels. And last 6 episodes adapted LN vol. 4 which was skipped in the old anime. The cast and director are the same, which is another plus. And it is much more fitting to put the Eve storyline in the nbext season as it spawns at volumes 5, 8 and 9 (with her missing in 6 but still being story-relevant).

@dimidrum I'm a little confused that by including a previously ignored arc they were only able to cover two thirds of the old anime. But this gives me hope that we will finally see a full adaptation of one of the most famous LNs. Even after more than 10 years.

Sooo… people who watched both original and remake, what do you think now, after the conclusion? Leaving nostalgia aside, is the remake well done?

Tbh I’ll watch the remake one way or another regardless of the answers… but I want to see what people is thinking.
Personally, at the moment I have only seen the first season of original anime. And not to mention the undoubtedly variety of strengths, the story or more specifically the narrative was sometimes pretty sloppy and messy. It felt like these were the nuances of adaptation. So I at least hope this was fixed in the new version.

Expectable, since Myuri's cameo at the start wasn't just an Easter egg, but actually foreshadowed, that we gonna have full adaptation.

Another one that I hope will air next year.
