The official website for the Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf (Spice & Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf) television anime revealed on Tuesday a pair of additional cast and a new key visual for the upcoming arc, titled Ikyоu no Kamigami no Denshоu (Legend of the Pagan Gods), which was not adapted in the original anime adaptation. The new arc is scheduled to begin on August 20 at 1:30 a.m. on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, and TV Aichi, followed by BS TV Tokyo and AT-X.

Lynn (Kidou Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo) and Atsushi Abe (Toaru Majutsu no Index) are joining the cast as Elsa Schtingheim and Evan Gyoam, respectively.

Hijiri Sanpei (Joshikousei no Mudazukai) is directing the anime at Passione with chief director Takeo Takahashi (Ookami to Koushinryou director). Kouji Haneda (Saihate no Paladin) is designing the characters and Kevin Penkin (Made in Abyss) is composing the music.

The series adapts Isuna Hasekura's fantasy romance light novel which was originally submitted at the Dengeki Novel Prize in 2005 and won the Silver Prize. Media Works (later ASCII Media Works, now Kadokawa) began publishing the series through its Dengeki Bunko label in February 2006, featuring illustrations by Juu Ayakura. Kadokawa shipped the 24th volume in January 2023.

Hasekura launched the spin-off light novel Shinsetsu Ookami to Koushinryou: Ookami to Youhishi (Wolf & Parchment: New Theory Spice & Wolf) in September 2016. The ninth volume was released in July 2023.

Yen Press licensed both light novels in English. The 24th volume of the main series was released in August 2023 and the ninth volume of the spin-off will be released on September 17.

I'm still waiting for them to get to the arc with that androgynous girl. I heard that the first anime cut it up a lot.
