The 2nd anniversary special program for the Lycoris Recoil television anime announced six short movies on Tuesday.

Different staff members will be directing and storyboarding each of the six movies, with Shingo Adachi in charge of supervision. Character designer Imigimuru will also handle the script for some of the episodes. The short movies will feature the daily lives of Chisato, Takina, and their friends.

The original anime aired in 13 episodes in Summer 2022. Aniplex of America licensed the anime in North America and streamed it on Crunchyroll, with a subsequent English dub. A new anime project was announced in February 2023.

Lycoris Recoil marked the directorial debut of Shingo Adachi (Sword Art Online character design, chief animation director) at A-1 Pictures. Asaura (Ben-To manga) penned the script, and Imigimuru (Kono Bijutsubu ni wa Mondai ga Aru! manga) designed the characters. Shuuhei Mutsuki (Sansha Sanyou) composed the music.

Exactly , couldn't have said it better . And this is the reason why I dropped it on ep5. The show couldn't decide what it's identity wanted to be from ep 5 and after

This show was at it's best when it didn't take itself seriously and was slice of life with cute girls in the first couple episodes.

Then the whole thing with the heart came in, and it was so ass.

It seems these movies are going back to the SoL aspect, nice.

It's always nice to see more of those dorks. Especially chilling without any needless fighting and tension. I hope LilyBell boys will make an appearance, so we could know more about them.

@Fluffygreygrass I do not remember them specifying it initially but most people say it will be a movie.

@Nachtwandler_21 thank you so much!

I used deepl and it has used “movie” for the new project. Is it a translation thing or the other project is a literal movie?

Jul 24, 2:40 AM by Fluffygreygrass

@Fluffygreygrass here is the tweet from Chika Anzai (Chisatos VA). It literarly says that these short movies will air while a new project is in the works:

Here is also the screenshot from conference but I am not sure what the text says:

Very underrated concern. Aika did it right.

@Nachtwandler_21

Can you please share the source and links for this?

great, the dumb anime that everyone compares newer originals to these days is back for more subpar stories.

Jul 24, 2:17 AM by YourAverageHater

I see in these comments a lot of confusion and nonsense lmao. These mini shorts will be 6 SoL episodes, the term "movie" surely means that it will first be broadcast in cinemas in one go (a bit like The Quintessential Quintuplets). However this anime is not the same project as the one announced in 2023, which can be season 2 or a film, in short the continuity of the main series, which when announced had the slogan "Their story is not over", so no these shorts are not the sequel to the anime and are not the new anime project (probably the sequel) that had been announced, it is another project. There are basically 2 upcoming projects, this one, which is simple SoL short episodes, and the previously announced big project which will surely be the continuation of the main series.

I'm actually very surprised this didn't get standard S2 instead.

6 short movies... I'd assume it'll be 30-40 minute long each, not including OP/ED.

If that's the case, length would be similar to 12 episodes.

BUT, since it's not S2 I'm afraid these films will be just fillers, fanservice or random shit that ultimately doesn't advance the plot whatsoever (otherwise, who not make S2 right?).
Plot was mediocre at best to begin with and the show was carried entirely by energetic Chisato, and I know many fans of the series couldn't give a shit about plot, but I kinda feel disappointed. Maybe because I don't believe the quality will be good or better than S1.
Guess I'll lower my expectations, leaving a grain of hope the films will pleasantly surprise us after all.

With mentions of GuP and PriPri on this thread, I'm curious to know if the length of these "short" movies is going to similar to Das Finale and the Crown Handler?

Also, I sincerely hope these "short" movies won't be locked behind a theatrical release wherein most audiences outside Japan won't be able to watch them online until more than 4 months after their premiere.

That is one way to look at it I guess. lol
