Toei Animation announced during the Virtual Anime Fes event on Saturday that an anime movie sequel of Rakuen Tsuihou (Expelled from Paradise), titled Rakuen Tsuihou: Kokoro no Resonance (Liberated from Paradise: Resonance of the Heart), is in production. The event also revealed the main staff, a key visual (pictured), and a teaser promotional video.

Seiji Mizushima (Beatless) returns to direct the sequel. Other returning staff includes Gen Urobuchi (Psycho-Pass), Masatsugu Saitou (Cyborg 009: Call of Justice), and Narasaki (Deadman Wonderland) as scriptwriter, character designer, and music composer, respectively.

Produced by Graphinica, the first movie was a joint project between Toei Animation and Nitroplus and opened in theaters in November 2014. Aniplex of America released the movie in US theaters in December of the same year.

Renji Ooki (Bubble) wrote a light novel sequel titled Rakuen Tsuihou 2.0: Rakuen Zankyou - Godspeed You (Expelled from Paradise 2.0: Paradise Reverberation - Godspeed You) published by Nitroplus with illustrations by Masatsugu Saitou in September 2015.

Rakuen Tsuihou won the Best Animation of the Year Award at the 24th Japan Movie Critics Awards.

I don't remember anything about the movie and probably watched it because of Kamiya Hiroshi in the first place.

Legit don't remember anything about this other than some scene of the girls sunbathing. Oh and all the r18 content of the female lead.

Deym. A sequel after 9 years? I'm happy to be alive to see it.

I really like the movie, so I'm glad there's a sequel.

Heh, I don’t think I’ve ever come across this franchise before but I’d definitely love to be up to date by the time this new instalment comes out.

@El-Melloi Yeah, thanks, I was referring to just that.

@RobertBobert If you're referring to the one-off sequel light novel, while I haven't read it myself (no English releases afaik) based on the synopsis and discussion in the forums I get the feeling this sequel movie is completely different and not based on the book at all.

So, no, I don't think this is going to be an adaptation. According to some other discussion I saw somewhere (forgot exactly where, sorry) the original script for this was going to be a lot different but then someone in the production staff presented this idea and they went with it instead.

Goes without saying, but I'm looking forward to what they're going to be cooking.

That is, if I understand correctly, the sequel was written a year after the premiere of the original anime, but they are adapting it only now, 9 years later?
