Sensei is voiced by akabane kenji

@Genoard It's the same. The question of "why doesn't Sensei ask these abnormalities?" itself is part of the mystery. We don't know Sensei's background, where did he (or she) come from, nor what is Kivotos. All we know is Kivotos is a city that exists somewhere. We don't know whether it exists on earth or not, or even actually exists physically. (There are several theories like Kivotos is some kind of a virtual simulator, or another realm like Heaven.) What if there's a memory manipulation for Sensei to not ask those abnormalities when he first entered the city?

And if you flip the question, the girls should be also asking Sensei why he's not bulletproof like them or why he doesn't have a halo. But they don't. Why? Because they at least have some knowledge about someone "outside from Kivotos" is a normal human. But what is "outside of Kivotos?" We have no way of knowing. This is the mystery. The entire world setting of Blue Archive is a mystery. And it's also possible that Sensei isn't asking those questions because he already knows about Kivotos as a place where girls have halos on their heads and are bulletproof. Not every isekai protagonist asks why magic exists in isekai, right? Same logic here.

@Genoard The adaptation of Azur Lane had two main problems. The over-hyperfocus on Enterprise, who was a good base character but the anime turned her into an agnsty Mary Sue, and the removal of Shikikan, which dramatically changed the tone and nature of the game. Especially a number of moments in the final that seemed like a strange disrespect for the players. That's why people were so happy that Slow Ahead found an opportunity to bring Shikikan back (and also returning to the four destroyers as universal protagonists), and the Arknights adaptation used the Doctor's gender-neutral nature to avoid controversy and retain the protagonist.

@Genoard Most of these problems can easily be solved by an anime adaptation, because it's, I don't know, an adaptation? Adaptations are expected to expand and explain the lore, as well as spice up the gameplay as much as possible while keeping the player experience intact. Just look at how the Mario and Sonic adaptations cleverly brought to life much more quirky and silly universes. And for this there is absolutely no need to step on the same rake as the adaptation of Azur Lane that distorted the spirit and characters of the game.

Fair. I did not consider the possibility of improving and establishing a character of player self-insert in the anime adaptation, like, for example, Love Live did with Nijigasaki.
Also, I don't know anything about quality of the Azure Lane adaptation other than what you mentioned in your earlier reply about them removing player character from the story, so my comparison was only within the context of this thread.

@Genoard All of the questions you asked (except the underwear one) are the same repeated questions that's been asked many times by lore chasers of the game. It's not like millions of people who downloaded this game never thought about them and you're the first one who did. The story didn't answer them yet because it's the mystery aspect of the game and even if they're answered, you have no way of knowing by reading only Vol 1. AoT won't answer the mystery of titans in just episode 1, it's the same here.

And while I do see where you're coming from about criticizing Sensei's role in writing, the Vol 1 you've read, and the same Vol they're going to adapt as anime now, is arguably not the best part of story in Blue Archive. They are going to adapt this Vol probably because the featuring cast is the face of the game. Vol 3 is the one that the fandom majorly agrees as the best part of story and believe it or not, the writing is significantly better than Vol 1, so much that you can't remove Sensei in no possible way without ruining the story. As a person who has only seen the tip of the iceberg, you should refrain from forming your opinion this hastily.

P.S. Believe with a grain of salt, but the CEO of the game has already expressed his intent that he wants to make a movie of the popular Vol 3 if the anime is a success.

I can see how my reply can be seen as a criticism of game's story, and, to be honest, it is, but my intention was to use it as an example of lack of characterization and personal agenda in Sensei. In other words, the problem is not that the game does not answer these questions, it is that Sensei doesn't even think about asking them in the first place.

yostar is a small and new studio but damn they are making a lot of anime lately but you can see with the later episodes of each of their anime that they struggle with a tv schedule

@SnailSavant I don't really think making choices and driving the plot is sufficient to make a faceless player self-insert a fleshed-out character.

From my limited experience with the game (completed Episode 1), 'Sensei' is more of a plot device. Sure, he provides some input that drives the story forward, but barely get any characterization of his own. The most baffling example of that is how, being an amnesiac protagonist, he doesn't question ANYTHING about the setting he found himself in. Why are all the students in this 'Academy city' female? Why do they all carry firearms and are bulletproof? Why do they all have halos floating above their heads? Why is the male population of this city is exclusively antropomorphic animals and robots? Why is this 16 year old girl walking around showing off her underwear? He doesn't question or process any of this information.

His role in the setting is poorly established. He is said to be a figure of authority playing an important role within the game world's established power system, but when faced with criminal activity (Kaiser), he relies on violence by a thrid party (Abydos) to confront it rather than executing said authority. Also his prolonged absense (IIRC it was said he roamed Abydos for three whole days alone) doesn't appear to have any consequences so the natural question is, what does he canonically even do?

His involvement in actual gameplay doesn't really make sense either: it is said that under his guidance, characters are more efficient at combat, but it is never stated what said 'guidance' actually entails. Player's input during gameplay is limited to using active skills, so, going by that, one can assume that it is Sensei giving such orders. But said orders are so basic - like heal an injured character, use an AoE attack against group of enemies or use a high damage attack against big enemy - that the idea that game characters couldn't figure such simple tactics out by themselves makes one question if they are all brain damaged.

All in all, for me it takes an immense amount of suspension of disbelief to accept the plot of this game and I would have been more interested in anime adaptation in question if it have gone the aforementioned Azur Lane route and abstained from including Sensei in the story.

Please, do not erase sensei from the anime(unless they are going full on anime original) cause literally sensei is the most important character in the game, unlike other gatcha games where they can somehow get away with erasing the mc cause they don't have a lot of plot relevancy, the main story and the theme of the game literally can't work without him.

Jan 20, 7:25 PM by WarBeastGT

@SnailSavant In that case, perhaps they will announce him or their VA at the last minute, like they did with the Doctor.

Jan 20, 2:35 PM by RobertBobert

@RobertBobert Yes, that would be the most sensible choice if they want to make a good adaptation.

Jan 20, 2:33 PM by SnailSavant

@SnailSavant So, are you suggesting that this is closer to IMAS P-san, where the adaptation gives the original design and voice to the previously self-insert protagonist?

Jan 20, 2:26 PM by RobertBobert

@RobertBobert He's directly involved with the students and the antagonists, and constantly makes choices that drive the plot. You can't express the main message of Blue Archive without Sensei's character. So my guess is that they'll either use Sensei's design from the Problem Solver 68 spin-off manga, or they'll make their own original version.

Jan 20, 2:19 PM by SnailSavant

@SnailSavant So how likely is it that they'll go the KanCole adaptation route, where the protagonist is an omnipresent spirit, involved in the plot but not shown? Or is he directly involved in the plot like P-san or the Doctor?
