The wraparound band on the ninth volume of Kuzushiro's Egao no Taenai Shokuba desu. (A Workplace Where You Can't Help But Smile) manga announced a television anime adaptation. The anime, produced by Voil, is set for a 2025 premiere. Kuzushiro drew an illustration to commemorate the announcement (pictured).

Kuzushiro (Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san) originally published the comedy slice of life manga as a one-shot in Kiss in February 2019 and began regular serialization on the Comic Days app and website in May that year. Kodansha shipped the ninth volume on January 18.

Synopsis
New shoujo manga artist Nana Futami works hard every day while being supported by Kaede Satou, her female editor who is older than her, and Mizuki Hazama, her assistant. According to the girl herself, she sometimes drums up intense daydream delusions of occupational illness! A working girls comedy set in the entertainment industry, brought to you by an author who always draws various girls. (Source: Kodansha, translated)

@Yubisoft I haven't read this manga, but as I said above, the author is a long-time yuri mangaka with a ton of famous yuri works. Regardless of how objective the tags are on manga resources, I think this will still have some yuri fanservice. But I don’t want to speculate and sound like an expert on manga that I haven’t read, so it’s easier for you to look at some raws yourself and draw your own conclusions.

If it is a genuine yuri manga then I will have zero problems since I like yuri manga. But you are right I should read some chapters from the source material to see how the mangaka handles the characters and story.

@Yubisoft Wotakoi is a romcom about otaku, it's more like Comic Girls and Shirobako. Of course, less moe and more shoujo style.

As long as it is not a yuri bait I will most likely be satisfied since I adore comedy anime etc.

I hope this will have a Wotakoi type of comedy

@Sleabedybarb Well, if it really is yuri and follows the same style as the mangaka's other works, then blindly determining the demographics will be quite difficult.

@RobertBobert most people are still unaware that josei and seinen are demographics, not genres.

Jan 17, 2024 6:33 PM by Sleabedybarb

@Sleabedybarb Then on what basis do people label it josei or seinen?

Although it's hard to tell, the sites can't even seem to decide whether it's josei or seinen.
Comic Days is a digital publication, it technically doesn't have a target demographic.

A number of manga resources call this yuri. Is this really true? The author has already written a lot of yuri and yuri-ish works. Although it's hard to tell, the sites can't even seem to decide whether it's josei or seinen.
