'Grendizer U' Reveals Additional Cast, Theme Songs, First Promo

The official website of the Grendizer U television anime revealed additional cast members, theme songs artists and the first promotional video on Sunday. The anime is scheduled to premiere in 2024.

Cassado Zeola Whiter: Yuuma Uchida (Blue Lock)
Gennosuke Yumi: Show Hayami (Honzuki no Gekokujou)
Genzo Umon: Takuya Kirimoto (Eyeshield 21)
Gandal: Takehito Koyasu (Jujutsu Kaisen 2nd Season)
Lady Gandal: Akeno Watanabe (Boku no Hero Academia)
Blacky: Wataru Takagi (Dorohedoro)
Zuril: Tomokazu Seki (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 6: Stone Ocean)

Rock band GLAY (Diamond no Ace) is performing the opening theme "Kaishin no Ichigeki." BAND-MAID (Platinum End) will perform the ending theme "Protect You." Both theme songs are previewed in the promotional video below.

Chief director Mitsuo Fukuda (Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED) and Shun Kudou (Kimi dake ni Motetainda.) are directing the anime series at Gaina. Ichirou Ookouchi (Kidou Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo) is in charge of the series composition and script. Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon Genesis Evangelion) is the character designer, and Kouhei Tanaka (Planet With) is composing the music.

The anime is based on Go Nagai's UFO Robo Grendizer television anime, which was produced by Toei Animation and aired in 74-episodes from October 1975 to February 1977. The UFO Robo Grendizer is a spin-off in the Mazinger Z series.

I'm embarrassed to hear Glay and Band-Maid in the video because their presence looks too good and raises my expectations with fears for the result.

The characters look very mediocre, and are coming straight from some 90s-2000s TV show design-wise. Sadamoto's work is wasted.

Since Grendizer is very much Mazinger-related, this means that Yuuma Uchida will now have had voiced roles in all three of SRW's original three franchises. He got his Gundam role in Build Fighters Try, and his Getter role in Arc. (Of course, Getter could be argued to be of slightly lesser importance than Mazinger and Gundam on the SRW side of things as it's the only one to have outright missed some mainline game appearances, but still)

Interesting to see them go the Gridman route of "mostly CGI with traditional shots" for the mecha. The designs look better in movement that they did in the concept art, and that opening slaps, so I have hopes. Also, MAZINGER Z IS HERE!
