Kotono Katou's Shoukoku no Altair (Altair: A Record of Battles) manga ended its 17-year serialization in Shounen Sirius's January 2024 issue on Saturday.

Katou began serializing the action fantasy manga in Shounen Sirius in July 2007. Kodansha shipped the 25th volume in March 2022. The 26th and final volume is scheduled to be released in Spring 2024. Kodansha USA licensed the manga for digital publishing in English in 2017 and released the 25th volume in September 2022.

MAPPA produced a 24-episode television anime in Summer 2017. The anime is streaming on Amazon Prime with English subtitles.

Shoukoku no Altair won the 41st Kodansha Manga Awards in the Shounen category.

The depth of the political intrigue and the development of Mahmut as a character was something else. It's rare to see a manga blend complex political scenarios with personal growth so well. I remember getting hooked around the time Kodansha USA started the digital release; their translation work really helped me get into the story. And that anime adaptation by MAPPA in 2017 was top-notch.

Hah, maybe this will somehow increase the chances of a second season? I just recently read about this and noticed that the manga received an anime many years ago.
