The first live event of Sony Music Entertainment Japan's UniteUp! idol project, sMiLea LIVE -Unite with You-, announced a second season for the anime series on Sunday.

Produced by CloverWorks, the 12-episode first anime season aired in Winter 2023. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime worldwide, excluding Asia.

UniteUp! is multi-dimensional idol project created by Sony Music Entertainment, which began with an official YouTube channel in November 2021. Songs from various artists were released on the channel.

Synopsis
Akira Kiyose, a high schooler who loves to sing, gets recruited by a talent agency called sMiLea Production. Akira learns that the legendary idols "Anela," who shocked the world with their sudden retirement, are behind the agency developing talent. Together with Banri Naoe and Chihiro Isuzugawa, also recruited by the agency, they form an idol group as they chase their dream towards super stardom alongside other idol groups "LEGIT" and "JAXX/JAXX." If it had been a hit, I wouldn't be "genuinely shocked" about it getting a second season. (Unless, I guess, it's been a long time since the previous season, which is not the case right now)
And, again, I'm interested in watching the second season. It's safe to assume that I like the first season. At least enough to watch its sequel. I clearly don't think of the anime itself as "weak". The "didn't do well enough for a second season" is directed towards its performance, hence "unnecessary question".
In this day and age when people find it funny to call their favorite shows "trash" or use the word shit to mean "thing"? Anyway, if you like it and were worried it wouldn't get a sequel, then good for you.
I wasn't worried. Just didn't expect another season, but sure.

Weak is a very loose concept and there is a difference between "it was weak, I didn't like it" and "it was weak, so I didn't expect it to get a second season". Likewise, the show could be a big hit and "obviously" get a second season, but I don't like it much.

You don't need to. Your question simply didn't make sense. If I thought the anime itself was "weak" and/or wasn't good enough for a second season, I wouldn't be interested in watching season 2, which is clearly am.

You directly call this anime "a show that few people watched", but are you surprised that I don't know anything about it? Well, OK.

Because it didn't perform well. Few people watched it and it didn't receive a good rating.
Do you have more unnecessary questions with obvious answers, or are you done?

Why? Did you just not think or was the anime really quite weak?

Genuinely shocked. I didn't think UniteUp! did well enough to get a second season. But I'll definitely watch it. Just need to finish the first season.
