Shinichirou Watanabe, MAPPA, Adult Swim Produce 'Lazarus' Original Anime [Update 7/22]

Adult Swim announced a new sci-fi original anime by Shinichirou Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Zankyou no Terror) and animation studio MAPPA titled Lazarus on Thursday.

Chad Stahelski (John Wick director) is credited for the action sequence designs. Jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, electronic music producer Floating Points, and music producer Bonobo will compose the music. The Adult Swim Festival in San Diego will feature a first-look at Lazarus on July 22.

Synopsis
The year is 2052—an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity prevails across the globe. The reason for this: mankind has been freed from sickness and pain. Nobel Prize winning neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug with no apparent drawbacks called Hapuna. Hapuna soon becomes ubiquitous... and essential. However, soon after Hapuna is officially introduced, Dr. Skinner vanishes.

Three years later, the world has moved on. But Dr. Skinner has returned—this time, as a harbinger of doom. Skinner announces that Hapuna has a short half-life. Everyone who has taken it will die approximately three years later. Death is coming for this sinful world—and coming soon.

As a response to this threat, a special task force of 5 agents is gathered from across the world to save humanity from Skinner's plan. This group is called "Lazarus." Can they find Skinner and develop a vaccine before time runs out? (Source: Adult Swim, edited)

when I saw the animes this studio made i was shocked !!

Holy shit, this sounds amazing! I'm a huge fan of Shinichirou Watanabe's work, and I'm so excited to see what he does with this project. The premise is really interesting, and I can't wait to see how it plays out. I'm also a big fan of Chad Stahelski's work, so I'm confident that the action sequences will be top-notch. And the music lineup is incredible! I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye on this one.

Most of the Toonami/Adult Swim originals have ranged from "meh" to "boring", but maybe this can buck the trend.

Despite the disappointing amount of CGI, this looks really interesting. You can feel the Ninja Tune vibe with the music, as I believe I read Bonobo is involved with the project. I'll be looking forward to this, but I'll be wary considering AS's track record.

Christianity was introduced to Japan by the Portuguese so a lot of biblical names follow the Portuguese form in Japanese.

I won't talk about ships, that's subjective crap. But Carol and Tuesday at least weren't trying to jump over their heads or build a cheap fandom through Twitter teasing.
