The Sword Art Online 10th Anniversary Project: Beyond stage at the Dengeki Bunko 30th Summer Festival Online 2023 event announced a second season for Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online television anime on Saturday, revealing an announcement promo and a teaser visual (pictured).

Voice actress Tomori Kusunoki (Chainsaw Man, Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha) is reprising as the protagonist LLENN. The lead staff returning are as follows:

Staff
Director: Masayuki Sakoi (Shinchou Yuusha: Kono Yuusha ga Ore Tueee Kuse ni Shinchou Sugiru, A3! Season Autumn & Winter)

The first anime season aired in 12 episodes in Spring 2018, adapting the first three volumes. Aniplex of America licensed the anime in North America and simulcast it on Crunchyroll and Hulu.

Gun Gale Online adapts the spin-off light novel by Keiichi Sigsawa (Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World), which has been published under the Dengeki Bunko imprint since December 2014, featuring illustrations by Kouhaku Kuroboshi (Princess Principal). Kadokawa published the 13th volume on March 10.

Tadadi Tamori drew a manga adaptation in Dengeki Maoh magazine from October 2015 to January 2021. Kadokawa shipped the fourth and final volume in March 2021.

Yen Press licensed both the light novel and manga in English in 2017 and published the 12th novel volume on June 20. The fourth and final manga volume went on sale last January..

This is actually so hype. I loved the first season so much, the characters were, imo, so much more loveable than core Sword Art Online (โ—•โ–ฟโ—•)

YAY! A sequel I never wanted! What is with trash anime getting sequels lately? This gets another season meanwhile Grimgar can just rot.

And yes, she retain & come back with one of her debut/early role in seiyuu career, after successfully voice Makima in CSM and her resignation to voice Setsuna in LoveLive series because of her health issue.. Glad she still voice Karen/LLENN..

Wait, there's only 1 more volume left to be adapted? Will that even be enough for 10 episodes? I guess they could bring back some cut content from the first 3 volumes. But if there was only 1 more volume left to be adapted my question is why couldn’t they make this sooner.

There is 13 volumes at the moment. The first season only adapted the first 3 one for the first squad jam and the 2 the second.

This sequel will adapt at least 3 more which were the third squad jam (2) and the beta test (one). If they have more then one cour they could do the fourth squad jam 3 volumes.

I thought the post said 4 volumes for the LN. But it was for the manga. Never mind.

I love GGOA, I will definitely want this!
The MC is interesting.
I just hope we can get a sequel from the original series next year.

Note: my comment looks shallow but I really meant it.

Nice to see more loli anime!!!  ๐Ÿ˜ญ The 1st season was solid so this is a must watch for me!

Jul 15, 2023 11:32 AM by rohan121

I don't want a spin off nor a remake ; I want a sequel to Alicization.

Jul 15, 2023 11:21 AM by ZXEAN

The first season felt a bit like filler, and had a conclusive ending. Didn't really want or expect more, but I'll probably watch it anyways.
